Bird species in an African Coral tree.

I will show you three different types of birds in the tree here.

At first we had Red-Winged Starlings in the Coral tree.

I have always loved this tree and it holds many secrets. So at the end of this post I have included a link where you will also get to know the secrets of the tree.
In the meantime as I said in the second heading, come and let's look at the birds in the tree.

They seem to love the fruits of the tree.

Almost missed this one coming in to land in the tree.

Here was one taking off in flight.

Here was a different set of starlings.

Sitting in the middle of the Coral tree, was a Common Starling (Sturnus vulgatis)

Here was another one peeping at me from behind one of the tree flowers.

And now for the last bird that I saw in the tree.

Drat! He turned his head as I snapped him. This is a Pin-Tailed Whydah (Vidua macroura)

I hope that after reading the contents of the tree you will also find it amazing. Roots so strong that it can smash a farmers plow. And some wear the beans of the tree as necklaces for a special purpose.

Hey, these are beautiful birds, Zac, and so different from the shiny Malachites.
I like the Starling in the middle of the tree most - the feathers look cool as well as the whole photo is my favourite in this post.

Good afternoon my friend.

They used to be called European Starlings Hannes, but they decided to call them by a new name.
Great thing is that there are 4 of them that are starting to eat in our garden here and one even had a bath that I will show in a post.

Good evening Hannes,

A bit late tonight as we had much to do today. Spent most of the morning and a long drive just to sort our Wifi signal out, as the PC showed "connected", but nothing opened.
So they couldn't fix it and I corrected it myself by calling the technical department of the modem suppliers. A long and tedious process, but everything is working now.

Did I tell you that I hate these power blackouts, as they also disturb the signal towers and then everything is a mess.

In any case yes, we have 4 new regulars here now and I also saw that new mousebird today. But I had to chase him away as he was in the tree where the sunbirds are nesting. The little parents were very anxious, so I scattered the mousebird.

Weekend was okay and I hope you also had a good weekend.

I just wanted to shut the computer off, but now I'll stay a little longer up 😉

Yep, I think you told me that you hate the power offs, and I also think that they can cause quite some problems with the internet.

I wonder what the birds will do when you move to another place. You will have to tell them where thay can find you if they need something or help ... just a thought ;)

Good evening Hannes,

It happened again today and we were caught totally off guard. So I sat down to do my second post, opened the PC and prepared to load the photos. 1 photo, 2 photos and then Bang!
Nothing as the PC switched off and everyting else switched off until 6:30pm.
What a waste.

Mother nature will tell the birds where to find us if we move and the birds will spread the news 🤣
In fact the sunbirds called me today to come and help as you see in my second post.

Sadly, the small ones are always ignored. You can complain, they even have forms to fill out, but you know where they land ... in the bin.

I want to see a photo of that message, but I'm sure you wouldn't hurt a tree :)

Hahaha again as both the bin and damaging the trees fall in similar categories.
The category is called "Ignorance" and it fits.

Maybe historians many years from now will discover the "art" and think how primative we were 🤣

I don't know which I like more, the birds or the tree. Id love to have a garden big enough for some of those trees.

Thank you and yes, our garden is also too small to plant yet another tree.
They cannot be planted near walls as their roots will crack the walls, but they are indeed beautiful trees.

I saw this morning that a line of them were planted at Denel (Paardevlei) and will watch them growing.

Nope, they are all the scarlet reds.
I haven't yet seen any of the other colors here.

In Paradyskloof in Stellenbosch there are one or two orange ones. The only pink one I ever heard of is in Pretoria.

I read that it is very easy to plant them, but yes, one would need a big garden.

We also have a variety of birds in the coral trees....although mostly weavers. Not quite the beautiful variety you have @papilloncharity. That close-up of yours is lovely! Look at the colours shining in his wings! Did you see our sunbird is back in her nest?!!! We're so excited. The little eggs are due to hatch out this weekend.......

Thank you! The little sunbird daddy is flitting around so I guess the babies have or are about to hatch. So exciting.

Took a long drive in the valley today and spotted hawks, kites and eagles. Spectacular!

Ha, I had to chase a mousebird out of the Bottle Brush tree this afternoon, as the little sunbird parents were flitting all over trying to get him out. They have a nest in there abd the tree is about 20 yards from our door.

I really hope that you get to see the babies, as our babies here don't hang around once they are out of the nest.

Hawks, kites and eagles what a dream to see. Did you get any photos?
