Concurso de Freewriters Sigue La Historia. El Comienzo. / Freewriters Contest Follows The Story. The Beginning. ESP/EN
(Edited)

He ran non-stop using every last of his forces. His heart was pounding desperately and his breath was short, but he knew he would have no other chance if he let that ship escape without giving the message to the cook. He tried to make his strides longer and fluttered much more with his arms, thinking that this would help him gain speed; but it was only a hindrance to his vision and he could not notice the slippery mud left by the rain of the night before, which caused him to fall to the floor on the mud.
When he tried to get up he felt the huge and strong hands of Gonzalo, who helped him to get up with incredible speed, and both boys began to run back to the boat.
Adrián did not feel pain because of the fall, he knew that he had gotten dirty when he fell, but he did not have time to look and check the damage to his clothes, he had to get to the port before the Hospital Ship left to make its tour of the communities of the Delta Amacuro.
Adrián had only one opportunity to send the letter and the package he carried with him to his cousin Ramón, who was a Lay Capuchin Missionary in the Mission of Araguaimujo, one of the indigenous communities of the Amacuro Delta.
While Gonzalo ran full of emotion and expectation, since he, like Ramón, was going to begin a vocational experience in The Mission of San Francisco de Guayo, to prove himself if he had a real missionary and priestly vocation, and if the religious and missionary life was what he really wanted to do the rest of his life.
They both ran like crazy, since they had been informed that the ship was leaving before noon, and it was already 11.40 in the morning, Adrián, had the intention of being able to talk to Humberto, an indigenous Warao, who worked in the kitchen of the Hospital Ship and who was very close to his cousin Ramón, so he could have news of Ramón first hand and, at the same time, send him the package and the letter he wanted to send him.
Gonzalo, unlike Adrián, wanted to see the Hospital Ship and ask for permission to embark on it and be able to travel to the mission in the Hospital Ship and make a tour of the different indigenous communities, helping as a volunteer, while he arrived at his destination. Those were the ideas that were in the minds of both boys, when they ran to the port.

As they passed one of the last streets, they saw the Hospital Ship in the harbor and realized that they were still carrying it. Humberto was sitting in a wooden box in front of the boat, when both boys arrived sweating and panting, because of the race they had made.
Humberto saw them, asked them what had happened to them and the boys told him what had happened on the crossing. Humberto introduced them to the captain of the ship and also to several of the personnel who were in the port. And that's when they found out that the ship would leave that same day but a few hours late.
This allowed the three boys to sit down for coffee and refreshments in one of the port premises, where they could share and catch up with all the information on one side and the other.
When the time of departure arrived, the three friends said goodbye, each full of illusions and expectations, Humberto went to his work on the ship, carrying the packages that Adrián entrusted to him to be delivered to his cousin.
Gonzalo accompanied Humberto to the ship and received with relief the welcome given to his volunteer work as he arrived at the mission. He was full of illusions, expectations, full of love for his neighbor and eager to begin his experience.
Adrian said goodbye, both with a big hug and went home, near the Scepter of Tucupita. Thinking that in a couple of months it would be his turn to start his own adventure, since he would go to Barquisimeto to start his medical studies at the university.
However he felt at peace, cheerful and calm, he wondered what the future would hold for each of them and ended up saying himself, that whatever it was that life held for them, the three would assume day by day and triumph, since all three had had a good basis for their beginning.
With those thoughts Adrian walked home, feeling nostalgia for the river and the city he still did not leave.
