Can a Happy Utopia Still Create Great Technology?
I will not be shy to say that I learned a new word today through this prompt; after all, learning never ends.
When I read the prompt description, I understood it, but the topic sounded new in my mind. I headed straight to Google to find out what "a happy utopia" means, lol. Surprise? But that's the truth, and I'm glad I know it now, and that's one thing Hive learners' prompts kept doing in my life: constant exposition to new knowledge every now and then.
So without further ado, I will share my thought about the prompt topic. A happy utopia, and I ask if technology will still thrive in a perfect world!
You see, sometimes I silently imagine how our world would look if all of us were content and without greediness, envy, or hatred of any kind but people living together joyfully with a common interest and loving their lives. What a fantasy indeed, lol.
Again, if our world were perfect, for instance, do you think? We would have achieved this milestone in technology today. Maybe not, because what is tech in a perfect world? Or maybe we would still have tech, but not with this speed of advancement. Looking around, I see the inventions we have around us today simply because they were needed to solve a problem.
We wanted an easier kind of life, and that's why we strived to have this tech today helping us to live a more comfortable life.Take, for instance, our mobile banking. Before now, you would have to stand in the queue for hours of waiting before having a successful transaction, but today, with just a few minutes of clicks, we are done and happy—less stress, less time, and a very convenient way of doing many things, and that's amazing to see.
I can also relate my own life to this subject; for example, running my business gave me room to be creative. Most times, things don't go as planned, and I have to deeply think of a way out. Those challenges are my driving force to come out of my comfort zone and imagine having everything run smoothly. How will I learn the lessons I have today in a perfect world and business?
The same narrative is applicable to other sectors like the medical people and their discoveries due to diseases threatening our world and how creative they are becoming seeking solutions. The transportation too has improved, including our communication mode today. As humans, we need this and that, but it doesn't mean that greed is okay. Again, I imagine those scientists working together trying to take away a particular disease, engineers working as a team to achieve a common goal, and software developers doing their own jointly too, all because they want to solve a problem without competition or looking to become billionaires.
Now, does growth actually require conflict? Not really. What it needs is simply a reason to grow.
Even if all of us become content, I believe human curiosity would still exist to some extent. Tech will still grow but not at this current speed; maybe we would not be competing with each other but working together instead.
