Really wonderful to see you walking this path, it will only help you grow, no matter how difficult. It is worth more than any worldly accomplishment, in my experience.
my greatest fear is that the immense amount of investigative efforts and energies I've expended in the last 2, 3, 4, 5 years ends up wasted.
Nothing is wasted, even if it appears to be so. I'm willing to bet the time you spent on this helped you grow to where you are now. I'm also willing to be that you've helped others in the process, even if not directly aware of it, or in direct contact with them. I know you've made a difference for me, so that's one person.
