La agrupación Los Amigos Invisibles representa el fenómeno de exportación más exitoso de la música de fusión en Venezuela. Surgida en Caracas en 1993, la banda fue fundada por un grupo de estudiantes universitarios que adoptaron su nombre inspirados en la célebre frase del historiador Arturo Úslar Pietri en su programa televisivo Valores Humanos. Desde sus inicios, el conjunto se distinguió por una propuesta sonora sofisticada, donde ritmos de funk, acid jazz y disco se entrelazan para crear un estilo orientado siempre hacia la celebración y el baile.

Su ascenso internacional definitivo ocurrió tras la edición de su álbum debut "A Typical and Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band". El reconocido músico británico David Byrne descubrió el disco en una tienda de Nueva York y, cautivado por su propuesta, los firmó para su sello discográfico Luaka Bop. Bajo esta casa grabaron la producción "The New Sound of the Venezuelan Gozadera" en 1998, trabajo que los impulsó a los escenarios más exigentes del mundo, permitiéndoles realizar giras por Estados Unidos, España, Inglaterra, Francia, Australia y Japón.

En el año 2001, la banda alcanzó un hito histórico para la industria nacional al recibir una nominación en la 43.ª edición de los Grammy Awards por su álbum "Arepa 3000", en la categoría Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. Este reconocimiento los convirtió en la primera agrupación venezolana en ser nominada a los premios de la Academia de la Grabación estadounidense. Su legado no solo reside en su éxito comercial, sino en haber profesionalizado la presencia del funk venezolano en el panorama musical internacional, manteniendo una vigencia de más de tres décadas.

The group Los Amigos Invisibles represents the most successful export phenomenon of fusion music in Venezuela.
