I had a terrible week.

Don't get me wrong, yes I had a terrible week but it had nothing to do with the garden, actually I was sick with dengue fever like every year since I've been living in this damn city, and this time I also had diarrhea, something that almost never happened to me before, but well, that forced me to be in bed and I couldn't work almost anything in the garden, luckily I feel better and that's why I'm doing this post, the truth is that today's pictures are a compilation of this whole week that I didn't work, at times I went up to the garden until the need to go to the bathroom made me run again, it was disgusting.

But with all the bone pain, fever, stomach ache and everything that goes with diarrhea, I gave myself time to do some transplants because my seedlings could not stand the situation anymore, and I didn't want these astrophytum to start crushing each other for lack of space, I'll tell you more about it later.

Today I woke up with more strength, I am almost relieved, I just need to recover from the dehydration so I went straight to the garden and found this graft I made from a super kabuto astrophytum, I had forgotten about it and until today I paid some attention to it, I think it looks pretty good and a little strange with only seven ribs, it still needs to grow more but I think it will look great.

By the way, I don't know if you remember my Grusonii from last year, they are now like this and I will probably use them as rootstocks, although at the moment I only have 8 of this size but when I see them with that beautiful color and those spines, I feel that I don't want to hurt them.

In my last post in the community I showed you the flower buds of these cacti, then I got sick and didn't post anything, but I kept the pictures to share them with you, I think the flowers look good but a little weird.

I was checking some grafts that already have some time and that I haven't seen growing much, for example this asterias of Thai cultivars, at first it started growing well but then stopped, so I had to re-graft it on garambullo.

IMG_20230712_083947.jpg

IMG_20230712_083919.jpg

For example this lophophora difussa was growing a little slow and when I looked at it more closely I realized that roots were growing from the peyote, so the most logical thing for me was to cut it and see why, that's how I realized that a fungus had grown inside it.

IMG_20230712_104310.jpg

That brown spot in the middle of the cactus is the fungus, so I had to keep cutting until the peyote was clean, of course I had to be very careful to disinfect the knife to avoid transporting the fungus to the new cuts.

IMG_20230712_104542.jpg

And this is how the clean part looks like, there is a small part that now that I see the picture I realize that there was still a little bit of the fungus, so I will have to cut again so that there is no more infection and the graft can grow as it should.

IMG_20230712_104602.jpg

And this is the area where I was doing the grafts, as you can see several cactus had fungus inside, hopefully now that they are clean they can grow better, and this shows us how delicate it is to make grafts, no matter how much care you take sometimes fungi will attack and kill some of your cactus, but it is part of the adventure.

And to finish I show you some garambullo cuttings, I will put them to dry and then put them in new pots and continue with the work of grafting cactus that interest me the most, see you in the next post.

Glad you are feeling better :)

Thank you.

I have an obsession with Astrophytum, today I received 200 asterias seeds because I have not been able to harvest asterias in my garden, only myriostigma and capricorne.

Damn, what a week. I was rushing around putting plants away as we went to -3C for 2 nights last week and even got some snow but I'm grateful I didn't get sick. I'm glad you are better

It's been a few days and the truth is that I still feel tired, without much motivation but that's life, you get down and you get up, I find myself trying to get up.

I hope you haven't had any losses with your plants because of the cold.
