Enjoy the legendary Khop Coffee at the cafe "Jameun Kupi", a 1960s concept cafe

If we cross the Medan - Banda Aceh road, both towards Banda Aceh and Medan, we can stop at a village called Cot Bada Baroh, Kec. Peusangan, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province. Here we will get a coffee shop which of course has a very different feel from other cafes that we can find here.

This destination is very suitable for all of us, whether those who visit here are married, office workers, college students, students and others. Here we will enter the atmosphere of old school or ancient times. In this old school cafe, there are various kinds of menus, such as food and drinks that offer special dishes from the past. In accordance with the theme and decoration of the past, the owner of this cafe gave the name "Jameun Kupi". Many guests come here to enjoy coffee and other menus to enjoy the atmosphere of a bygone era, we can imagine the 1980s. Here we can also see the many knick-knacks of the past that adorn this cafe, from the entrance to the cafe.

The menu ordered here includes nira coffee, bandrek, sugar cane coffee, khop coffee (reverse coffee) tea, lemonade, Dugok, fried foods, fruits and many more. Now, for this lemonade drink, it reminds me of when I was a child, which was a type of soda that was the most popular in its era.

While here we ordered menus such as sugarcane coffee, khop coffee, banana teukerabe (boiled bananas and a sprinkling of coconut) and instant noodles. Here I will explain a little about the menu that we ordered. The first is “Coffee Cane”, this coffee is made without added sugar, the substitute for sugar is sugar cane juice. The composition of this coffee is 40% sugar cane juice and 60% coffee. In the bottle that is served with sugarcane coffee, sugar cane that has been cut in four has a length of about 15 centimeters. In 1 bottle of this coffee can produce 8 cups of coffee, in the small glass will also be given sugar cane which is 5 cm long as a substitute for a spoon. This coffee that I taste is very different from other coffees that I have tried. Has a distinctive coffee aroma but is very fresh when we drink it. It tasted very good. The second is khop coffee. Talking about this coffee, I immediately remembered the city of Meulaboh which is one of the westernmost cities in Aceh Province. This coffee is served differently than usual, this coffee cup is intentionally made upside down, the coffee cup is upside down on a plate and only given 1 straw for us to use when we drink the coffee. The coffee beans are clearly visible in the serving glass. The third is the teukerabe banana which is a typical food or traditional Acehnese food. This is an interlude menu or we can call it a snack. The main content of the menu is boiled and added coconut that has been shaved first. Of course the menu will remind us of the "old days". The fourth one, of course, everyone knows about the instant noodle dish.

That's a little story about this very unique menu and cafe, a cafe whose nuances are very thick from the ancient era, yes, according to the name "Jameun Kupi", which in Indonesian means Coffee Age.

An interesting way of drinking coffee, with the glass upside down. I never do it. noodle dishes with typical Indonesian snacks make the atmosphere even more perfect.
greetings from coffee lovers ☕️

Hello @mohd.iqbal,
It is interesting to see coffee drinking that way. Also great that different regions of your country have different practices.
Sugar cane coffee is a new concept that I have only heard about in Indonesia, however it makes total sense for those who like to have their coffee sweet.
Thanks for stopping by:)
