Glazed frost | POBphotocontest: Cold

Although winter hasn't officially started yet, we're already in the snow. And with winter comes also the cold. In this post for the #POBPhotocontest, I would like to share with you some photos of the glazed frost that gripped Slovenia a few years ago.

My entry photo for the #POBphotocontest

Glazed frost is a form of icy precipitation on the ground that creates a coating of ice on objects and on the earth's surface. It occurs when cold air is trapped near the ground and warm air is present at high altitudes. When it snows, the snow falls to a warmer layer where it turns to rain due to warmer temperatures. When the rain reaches the ground layer of cold air, it cools again and the tiny droplets freeze on contact with the ground.

In some regions, the ice armour was more than 5 cm thick, in some places up to 8 cm. The weight of the ice caused trees and power lines to break, leaving households without electricity for several days.

I hope it never happens again ❄️❄️❄️

As interesting and beautiful as it was to take photos of trees, it was horrible when they were felled by the weight of the ice,....the forests have not fully recovered to this day.
