[Movie] Voicemails for Isabelle: When a Stranger Listens In (Review)

One of the reasons I love to see movies is because of the things I get to learn randomly from stories, like this one that taught me of what happens to phone numbers of the dead. Maybe it doesn't happen to all the numbers but there's a high chance of a dead person's number being used again, but only for a more different purpose.

Today, I'm reviewing a very recent release that has a familiar face that I kept thinking of the movie I had first saw him until I checked to know and it turned out it's been a long time so he has changed a lot. Anyways, I had a good time seeing this movie for many reasons which I'll be sharing.

"Voicemails For Isabelle" is a surprisingly feel-good romantic drama with some good comedy. It was released in June, this year starring Zoey Deutch as Jill, Nick Robinson as Wes, Harry Shum Jr. as Andy and Leah McKendrick as Breeda written and directed by Leah McKendrick.

The story explores the life of a Jill who loves her sister, Isabelle (terminally ill) so much that even after her death, Jill keeps leaving voice messages to her telling her chaotic life in San Francisco not knowing that the number have bee given as a work phone number to a guy named Wes living in Austin. This stranger slowly falls for her one message at a time and begins to wait for the next. He finally made a move to visit one day.

On another side is the challenging life of Jill as she tries to be more than a prep cook at a prestigious restaurant but every person seem to be against her. Even a competition she had a chance to win got rigged and she decided to give it up and start her own cooking business which didn't kick off well at first. In the midst of all these, she finds Wes out with all her messages.

I bet you can already tell it's a good story, that will get you smiling and it's also a tearjerker. It actually got me wondering what the chances are that her Voicemails were being listened to and the person got so interested in her life that her enemies became his enemy to the extent of him travelling across country to go see and know her.

I must mention my favourite couple in the story, Andy and Breeda, friends to Wes who keeps advising him on how to go about his situation with Jill as they prepare for their wedding. Turns out Breeda, the character is the writer of this story and I think that makes the story more lovely. I loved the energy and vibe they brought.

The story is beautiful, the chemistry between Jill and Wes is intense and I did not expect how some things turned out, that's how unpredictable it got at some point. If you're yet to see this new release, you should. By the way, Wes is the familiar actor and he starred in the movie "Everything Everything" but younger in that one.
