More Than Looks: Discovering My Mother in Me

I have a very large family but from the few I've had to spend time with, I know who among them I'm most like. Resemblance goes beyond looks, but actions and if I'm being honest, it was very recently I learned about that. That's because I spent some time with my mum and her mother (my grandma). I noticed what I've been missing.

My grandma had six children, all girls until we lost one of my aunt so there are only five of them. Out of all of them, my mum is most like my grandma (her mum) than her sisters and I say this because I watched the two of them closely to see the resemblance in not just the face but in actions, even how they talk awes me sometimes.

I'm responding to the prompt from this angle because I'm wondering if by extension, I'm also like my grandma. Because I get the comments or remarks all the time I'm next to my mum or anyone who knows my mum sees me for the first time or even just randomly... You are so much like your mother, you two look like sisters, so alike!

I didn't get the privilege to stay with my mum until I got a bit older so being told that I look so much like her was expected because we have this saying that a child resembles a mother or father who's trying to run away from being in the child's life lol. Not that I believed it but it's saying that didn't make me question resembling my mum.

It got interesting while I was watching my mum closely over the past few years and realizing I don't only look like her but our actions are quite similar. I'm just glad I noticed earlier because even though I really love my mum and most of the things she does, there are some habits I see that she has that I do not want to have to repeat.

Of course her life's experience has brought her this far, developing habits along the way. I may look like her and do some things like she does, I want to get to have my own life experience by making my own choices and live differently and better. But if I must point someone in my family that I am like most, it's my mother and it's clear.

Mum likes to be a good company to people around, she loves to encourage people and she is an inspiration to many that know her. I believe I got all that from her because even though I take it lightly, people have made remarks about how easy they find it to talk to me and some have even recommended I get a job in that line too.

Even in some little actions, I am also like my mum but I think I do mine in a young mind's way so I don't let myself get exhausted in doing them like my mum and that's the difference I am grateful for and I'm still happy I'm most like mum.
