OK... we got there... I have a farm on PolyCub

The journey of a DeFi Novice Continues

After much frustration and confusion on launch day, I gave up my lame attempts of setting up a USDC-PolyCub farm on the new Cub Finance platform on the Matic Network. I felt stupid, annoyed and was experiencing major FOMO.

The experience was most certainly overly complicated given that I haven't been using MetaMask on the first Cub Finance platform that I had struggled through learning only a week or so ago while setting up a BNB-Cub farm.

I used the BNB wallet on the first platform, meaning that I needed to:

  • Create a MetaMask wallet;
  • Top up the wallet with funds;
  • Set up the Matic network on MetaMask;
  • Get my wallet to recognise the PolyCub token;
  • Learn to transfer my USDC from the Binance smart chain to the Matic Network; and
  • Grow some additional grey hairs in the process.

The positive news is that I am yet to inadvertently donate funds to ISIS through my many fumblings and failings.

And then there's the airdrop

So, because I hadn't used MetaMask originally, the process to claim my airdropped tokens wasn't straight forward.

Thankfully, the LeoFinance community on Discord are incredibly patient and helpful (many thanks to @hykSs), and guided me through the process of transferring my BNB wallet to MetaMask. Doing so allowed me to claim my first airdrop tokens. Some of which are now staked on PolyCub at an impressive 2500% APY.

But the farming!

Yes, the farms, my main goal for this platform.

On launch day, I purchased a couple of hundred dollars worth of USDC to stake with PolyCub in order to add liquidity and earn a few thousand percent APY per year.

I eventually managed to get these tokens across to the Matic network and quickly discovered that I had no Matic to provide gas for transactions. So I purchased a small amount of Matic as well. Now I have an abundance of gas. Something my wife reminds me of daily.

The mission then became purchasing some PolyCub to stake against my USDC for liquidity. For some reason the transactions would not go through (as it turns out the Matic network is rather congested). But this turned out to be a good thing. PolyCub went above $4 a coin on launch day. So after my little hissy fit that lead me to give up for a couple of days, the price of PolyCub came back down to around $1.50 per coin. This meant that I was able to purchase many more coins with my USDC once I had calmed myself down and was finally able to convince the transactions to go through.

After much confusion and stupidity, I was then able to convert my USDC and PolyCub tokens to LP tokens, and I now finally have a farm all set up and generating tokens.

Look at my farm in all it's glory:

To say I am relieved would be an understatement. There was even a moment where I panicked and thought that my tokens had vanished. This lead to me discovering the Sushi-swap community on Discord, who are also incredibly patient, helpful an not at all insulting to nublets like me asking stupid questions in their help channel.

So what did I learn today?

  • I am a nublet; and
  • If I can set up farms on PolyCub, literally anyone can.

That's great news! I still haven't managed to be able to claim the airdrop. After reading this I will go about it following your lead. I hadn't used metamask either and am stumbling heavily lol.

Well done, mate. Quite the learning curve, but you're ahead of it now.
