It has always seemed a little silly to me how easily parents can find excuses not to believe in what children are afraid of, if it is imagination, if they want to attract attention, if monsters do not exist, everything possible to not believe that something could be scaring them. But is it really because they don't listen to them or is it the fear that it is also about them?

Siempre me ha parecido un poco tonto la facilidad con la que los padres pueden conseguir excusas para no creer en lo que a los niños temen, que si es la imaginación, que si quiere llamar la atención, que si los monstruos no existen, todo lo posible para no creer que algo pueda estar asustándoles. Pero ¿es realmente por no hacerles caso o es el miedo de que aquello también vaya por ellos?

The Boogeyman is the kind of monster you don't want to believe exists, he plays with your mind, all your fears, destroys your confidence and feeds on the terror you provoke. Here we know him popularly as El Coco, and as you grow older you make more excuses to yourself that it was just a shadow, the wind, a noise from the street, but deep down you know what you saw, you know it's real.

The Boogeyman es el tipo de monstruo que no quieres creer que existe, juega con tu mente, todos tus miedos, destruye tu confianza y se alimenta del terror que provocas. Aquí lo conocemos popularmente como El Coco, y mientras vas creciendo te vas dando más excusas a ti mismo de que solo fue una sombra, el viento, un ruido de la calle, pero muy en el fondo tú sabes lo que viste, tú sabes que es real.

The film exposes the typical situation at home when something does not let you sleep, portrays very well the terror that Stephen King exposes in his stories and leaves the strange feeling in the body. The production knew how to do a good job with the scream scenes, and trapped the viewer on several occasions.

La película expone la típica situación en casa cuando algo no te deja dormir, retrata muy bien el terror que expone Stephen King en sus relatos y deja la sensación extraña en el cuerpo. La producción supo realizar un buen trabajo con las escenas de scream, y atrapar al espectador en varias ocasiones.

Although the first plans of this film were to be distributed by streaming and the Hulu platform, it got the space in theaters and has had a good general acceptance; with a little known cast, it offers an adaptation full of suspense and terror. The film was canceled in 2019 after the acquisition of Fox by Disney and resumed with hopes in 2021 with the hiring of Rob Savage as director and the producers of Stranger Things, in February 2022 began shooting.

A pesar de que los primeros planes de esta cinta era ser distribuida por el streaming y la plataforma de Hulu, se hizo con el espacio en cines y ha tenido una buena aceptación general; con un elenco poco conocido, ofrece una adaptación llena de suspenso y terror. La película fue cancelada en el 2019 tras la adquisición de Fox por Disney y retomada con esperanzas en el 2021 con la contratación de Rob Savage como director y los productores de Stranger Things, en febrero del 2022 comenzó el rodaje.

It is a tape that in my opinion should be +16, although for some strange reason Disney rated it +13 despite containing several scenes that could be traumatic. I want to clarify that it is not a family film, and is aimed at horror fans. Although I have some complaints, I liked the gamble and left the theater pleased.

Es una cinta que en mi opinión debería ser +16, aunque por alguna extraña razón Disney la clasificó +13 a pesar de contener varias escenas que podrían ser traumáticas. Quiero aclarar que no es una película familiar, y está dirigida a los fans del terror. Aunque tengo algunas quejas, me gustó la apuesta y salí complacida de la sala de cine.

The delivery of the film is undoubtedly in the terms of acceptable and bearable. Stephen King is one of the writers who has had the most film adaptations, and although he is the bearer of classics in the seventh art, he also has some disposable films. However, I think that by going in without high hopes, this helped my perspective of the production. I will not deny that it is very difficult to get something good in the horror genre, almost everything is done and very little scares easily. But the film is below expectations for the names behind it, although I won't deny that it's enjoyable.

La entrega de la cinta está sin duda en los términos de aceptable y llevadera. Stephen King es de los escritores que más ha tenido adaptaciones en el cine, y aunque es el portador de clásicos en el séptimo arte, también tiene algunas cintas desechables. Sin embargo, creo que al ir sin muchas esperanzas, esto favoreció mi perspectiva de la producción. No voy a negar que es muy díficil obtener algo bueno en el género del terror, casi todo está hecho y muy poco asusta con facilidad. Pero la cinta está por debajo de lo esperado para los nombres que se encargaron de realizarla, aunque no voy a negar que es disfrutable.

Boogeyman is the personification of a monster that feeds on fears and traumas, and although its biggest bet is on the smallest of the household as it has no barriers that allow it to defend itself, it doesn't mean that Boogeyman can't harm the older ones. The story is about the most common character who hides in the dark and has the ability to cause harm without being credited. The exposition of psychological terror could have been better utilized in the story, but it is still an important factor in the story's realization and results, in my opinion a direct contribution from King that enhanced the film.

Boogeyman es la personificación de un monstruo que se alimenta con los miedos y traumas, y aunque su mayor apuesta es por los más pequeños del hogar al no tener barreras que le permitan defenderse, no significa que Boogeyman no pueda dañar a los más grandes. La historia trata al personaje más común que se esconde en la oscuridad y tiene la habilidad de causar daño sin que le atribuyan los créditos. La exposición del terror psicológico pudo ser mejor utilizado en la historia, pero no deja de ser un factor importante para la realización de la misma y los resultados, a mí parecer un aporte directo de King que mejoró el film.

The film works with different themes beyond horror, it has central themes such as loss, communication problems, dysfunctional family, bullying, normalizing fears, and the difficulties of overcoming difficult moments. The whole mix of these themes gave the plot a certain credibility and basis to be exposed to an entity like boogeyman.

La cinta trabaja con diferentes temáticas más allá del terror, tiene temas centrales como la pérdida, problemas de comunicación, familia disfuncional, el bullying, normalizar los miedos, y las dificultades de superar momentos difíciles. Toda la mezcla de estos temas dieron a la trama cierta credibilidad y base para ser expuestos ante una entidad como boogeyman.

The film exposes a teenage girl and a girl who are grieving the loss of her mother, while her father, a man who struggles with his own emotions, does not know how to deal with such situations. The estrangement between them will allow the monster that stalks them to begin to harm them from the weakest person.

La película expone a una adolescente y una niña que viven el duelo por la pérdida materna, mientras que su padre, un hombre que lucha contra sus propias emociones, no sabe cómo lidiar con tales situaciones. El alejamiento entre ellos permitirá que el monstruo que los acecha comience a hacerles daños desde la persona más débil.

Children, being more innocent beings, are often exposed to strong emotions and evil, either from these "monsters" or people. The film highlights the ease with which the problems of the most vulnerable in the home are ignored amidst excuses and selfishness. The performance of little Sawyer Harper (Vivien Lyra Blair) is undoubtedly one of the best in the film, her emotions are exposed on screen with believability and the horror that gnaws at her. The production did an interesting job of focusing on both daughters as the pioneers of the plot, however, the father's character would have been a better bet as he had a more appealing mise-en-scène. By playing it safe, it resulted in something between predictable and neutral.

Los niños al ser seres más inocentes suelen quedar expuestos ante emociones fuertes y la maldad, ya sea de estos "monstruos" o personas. La película deja en evidencia la facilidad con la que se ignoran los problemas de los más vulnerables del hogar entre las excusas y el egoísmo. La interpretación de la pequeña Sawyer Harper (Vivien Lyra Blair) es sin duda de lo mejor del film, sus emociones quedan expuestas en la pantalla con credibilidad y el horror que le corroe. La producción hizo una labor interesante al enfocar a ambas hijas como las pioneras de la trama, sin embargo, el personaje del padre fuera sido una apuesta mejorable ya que tenía una puesta en escena más atractiva. Al irse por lo seguro, dio como resultado algo entre predecible y neutro.

The performances were interesting, the setting of the work allowed to create tension in the viewer and to enliven the terror of the events. The shots were very well used, creating a strange sensation for the viewer, and the sequence shots were an excellent plus for the production. However, the final gamble to give Boogeyman a face seemed decadent to me, it was scary until he appeared, it looks like a zombie from I Am Legend and a mutant from Doom the Gate of Hell had a child.

Las actuaciones estuvieron interesantes, la ambientación de la obra permitió crear tensión en el espectador y avivar el terror en los sucesos. Fueron muy bien utilizados los plano detalles, creando una sensación extraña al televidente, y las toma secuencia fueron un excelente plus para la producción. Sin embargo, la apuesta final para darle rostro a Boogeyman me pareció decadente, dio miedo hasta que apareció, parece que un zombie de Soy Leyenda y un mutante de Doom la puerta del infierno fueran tenido un hijo.

The movie is pretty good for a SK horror adaptation, but I know it could have given more. Although we must not forget that movies usually go through so many cuts of scenes for the final delivery, that perhaps their best ideas were left in some computer of oblivion, and it is not the fault of the director or screenwriters.

La película está muy bien para ser una adaptación del terror SK, pero sé que pudo dar más. Aunque no hay que olvidar que las películas suelen pasar por tantos recortes de escenas para la entrega final, que quizás sus mejores ideas quedaron en alguna computadora del olvido, y no es culpa del director o guionistas.

As soon as I saw that the theater was releasing this movie I put any excuse aside and decided to go see it. Could it have been better? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Yes. The production certainly knew how to level its expenses and deliver an acceptable result, although it doesn't have much to do with the trilogy of the same name from 2005, it certainly makes an impression on the nerves, plus the story behind the terror is also functional to create an emotional bond with the viewer.

Apenas vi que el cine estaba estrenando esta película dejé cualquier excusa de lado y decidí ir a verla. ¿Pudo ser mejor? Sí. ¿La disfruté? Sí. La producción sin duda supo nivelar sus gastos y entregar un resultado aceptable, aunque no tiene mucho que ver con la trilogía del mismo nombre del 2005, sin duda causa una impresión en los nervios, además de que la historia detrás del terror también es funcional para crear un lazo emocional con el espectador.

It's still in theaters, so you can see it there, the experience is much better as there are many dark shots. For me it's a solid 5.8/10 and I really hope to keep watching more adaptations of the king of horror. And don't miss to live these thrills in the cinema, it has no comparison.

Aún sigue en los cines, así que pueden verla allí, la experiencia es mucho mejor ya que hay muchas tomas oscuras. Para mí es un solido 5.8/10 y realmente espero seguir viendo más adaptaciones del rey del terror. Y no dejen de vivir estas emociones en el cine, no tiene comparación.
