Fan-Art Digital Drawing of Mischievous Mermaid. Splinterlands Weekly Art Contest.

Hey All

How Are You All?

I hope you all are well and leading a happy life. I've recently learned to do digital drawings using my graphics tablet. It took me some time to learn the process and also I was working on a project with my team. We designed and crafted some dresses. So, I was quite busy with that and used my free time to learn digital drawing. After all these lessons, hard work, and practice, I was able to create one that I can share with you all finally. This is a fan-art version of a monster of splinterlands that I drew on my way. I drew it to participate in the weekly art contest arranged by @splinterlands. I'll add the link to this week's contest below. Check it out if you feel interested. This contest helped me in a lot of ways. Not only by rewarding my work but also by inspiring me to develop my skills to achieve my goal to become a winner of the contest one day. That is why I'm trying all the possible ways and trying to build skills in every way of drawing. From pencil sketching to illustration and digital drawing. The contest also helps me to get new ideas by analyzing other contestants' work. These help me to create my ideas and visualize them.
  • The card I drew is named Mischievous Mermaid. I have used a drawing software called ibis Paint to complete the drawing. Now, let's see how I did it.

Tools

As tools I used my newly bought graphics tablet and the pen came with it. I connected them both with my laptop to use ibis Paint.

Steps

  • First of all I drew the structure of the character with a thin brush and visualized the theme. Then I used a smooth brush and decreased the hardness of the brush to draw her basic skin tone. Drawing the basic struck
  • Then I started to work with her eyes and then her full face. I drew the main colors normally first and then used light colors to add a glow effect to them.
  • Bringing the glaze on her eyes took me some time and many trials, but in the end, I was able to complete it. It's the fun part of digital drawing. You can try out as many ideas as possible while not being afraid of making any faults. Because there's always a undo option that you don't get while drawing on a piece of paper with real drawing tools.
  • Then in this step I completed her hair. To do that I first drew some lines that represent the structure of the hair part and used a purple color soft brush to overlap it. After that, I used a hard and deeper version of the same color and some both bold and soft black strokes too. These made the hairs look real, gorgeous, and shiny.
  • I then took a thin pen to draw more lines that'd give it the look of real hair.

  • Then I completed the main drawing by adding a dress to her body that matches her hair color. Now, only one step of drawing a background behind her is remaining.
