Thailand Travel diary 2021 / The beginning in Germany... Frankfurt Airport / Hotel and the New Thailand Pass System
I knew it exactly... from the beginning... Traveling in this time is not an easy undertaking. I noticed that recently on my trip to Greece / Crete. But in Germany, especially now, at the dark time of the year, Christmas and all the stuff, the ceiling falls on my head. Therefore, I decided to ship my butt as soon as possible to a warm place. In the web circulated a little longer the message that the entry to Thailand from 01 November should be better. This taken as a reason then directly the flight was booked.
The Thailand passport - It should be so simple, was however a disaster
On 01 November, the Thai government has opened the new portal for the Thailand Passport. Here you had to enter all kinds of data, vaccination status, flight details, hotel accommodation and and and.... Some documents I had e.g. from my insurance only as a PDF document. The problem was that you could not upload any data in the portal that was stored as a PDF. So I had to create a JPG from everything and then upload it.
Arrived at the last step finally the last button to click and send. Man I was happy and when I clicked on the button.... But what happened then? Nothing... exactly nothing... Except for a message that there was an "API error". Great... frustrated I searched the net and yes... I was not alone. The system of the app was overloaded or did not work properly - reported several hundred that morning.
But then everything changed and my prayers were answered. I finally got my entry permit to Thailand. Well, not just once.... but very often. Because every press on the send button triggered an email, but it couldn't be sent and so it was on hold. I was surprised to receive almost 20 entry confirmations. Hopefully, there is no trouble at the check-in counter in Frankfurt.
Ich wusste es ganz genau.. von Anfang an... Reisen in diesen Zeit ist kein leichtes unterfangen. Das hab ich vor kurzem schon auf meiner Reise nach Griechenland / Kreta gemerkt. In Deutschland fällt mir aber besonders jetzt, zur dunklen Jahreszeit, Weihnachten und der ganze Krams die Decke auf den Kopf. Daher hab ich mich dazu entschlossen, meinen Popo so schnell es geht, an einen warmen Ort zu verfrachten. Im Netz kursierte schon etwas länger die Nachricht, das die Einreise nach Thailand ab dem 01. November besser werden sollte. Dies zum Anlass genommen wurde dann direkt der Flug gebucht .
Der Thailand Pass - Es sollte so einfach sein, war aber ein Desaster
Am 01. November hat die thailändische Regierung das neue Portal für den Thailand Pass eröffnet. Hier musste man dann allerhand Daten eingeben, Impfstatus, Flug-Details, Hotel Unterkunft und und und... Manche Dokumente hatte ich z.B. von meiner Versicherung nur als PDF Dokument. Das Problem war aber, das man in dem Portal keine Daten hochladen konnte, die als PDF hinterlagen. Demnach musste aus allem ein JPG hergestellt werden und dann hochgeladen werden.
Am letzten Schritt angekommen endlich der letzte Button zum klicken und absenden. Mensch hatte ich mich gefreut und als ich auf den Button geklickt hab... Doch was passierte dann? Nicht... genau nichts... Bis auf eine Message das es einen "API-Error" gab. Na toll... frustiert erstmal das Netz durchsucht und ja siehe da - ich war nicht alleine. Das System der App war überlastet oder funktionierte nicht richtig - berichteten einige hundert an diesem Morgen.
Doch dann kam alles anders und meine Gebete wurden erhört. Ich habe endlich meine Einreise-Erlaubnis nach Thailand erhalten. Naja, aber nicht nur einmal... sondern sehr häufig. Denn jeder Druck auf den absenden Button hat eine E-Mail getriggert, die aber nicht versendet werden konnte und somit auf On Hold stand. Ich war überrascht, das ich knapp 20 Einreisebestätigungen erhalten. Hoffentlich gibt das keinen Trouble am Check-In Schalter in Frankfurt.

Now the system works but much better you can read on various social media channels. At the airport itself on 05 at the Thai Air check-in, there were but also some travelers who had problems or had no confirmation at all. The Thai Air staff has, as I have noticed, very well taken care of the travelers who have made the system problems.
Den QR Code hab ich dann mal selbst gescannt und konnte alle Daten lesen, die ich eingegeben habe. Perfekt. Diese Hürde ist also auch geschafft.
Jetzt funktioniert das System aber viel besser kann man auf diversen Social Media Kanälen lesen. Am Flughafen selbst am 05. beim Thai Air Check-In gab es aber auch vereinzelnt reisende, die Probleme hatten oder überhaupt keine Bestätigung hatten. Das Thai-Air Personal hat sich, so wie ich das mitbekommen habe, sehr gut um die Reisenden gekümmert, bei denen das System Probleme gemacht haben.
One night in Frankfurt before the flight to Thailand
I arrived with the Deutsche Bahn... one day before, because you never know if there will be delays or not. Thanks also to @rivalzzz for the cab service to the station. Arrived in Frankfurt at the long-distance train station i went then first of all to the booked Sheraton Hotel to the room to come down after the long journey a little. The hotel was, as it seemed, not very busy - in general there was not much travel activity. The room was great, quiet and the bed was great. All in all, I had a relaxing night before heading to the plane the next day.
Eine Nacht in Frankfurt vor dem Flug nach Thailand
Angereist bin ich mit der Deutschen Bahn... einen Tag vorher, da man bei der Bahn ja nie wissen kann, ob es mal zu Verspätungen kommt oder nicht. Vielen Dank auch an @rivalzzz für den Taxi-Service zum Bahnhof. In Frankfurt am Fernbahnhof angekommen ging es dann erstmal weiter in das gebuchte Sheraton Hotel aufs Zimmer um nach der langen Reise etwas runter zu kommen. Das Hotel war, wie es aussah nicht großartig ausgebucht - allgemein war nicht viel Reiseaktivität festzustellen. Das Zimmer war großartig, ruhig und das Bett war super. Allen in allem hatte ich eine entspannte Nacht, bevor es am nächsten Tag zum Flieger ging.
For entry into Thailand, it was mandatory to take a Covid PCR test that was not older than 72 hours. The problem was that I could not make such a test in my home area and thus had to book a test for about 150 EURO at the airport by express. So after the wake-up call at 05:30 in the morning, I went directly to the test center, which was right next to the hotel. There just quickly poke around with the chopstick in the mouth - waited a good 1.5 hours and received the negative Covid result via e-mail. After I received the e-mail, I went to the test center again to get the confirmation of the Covid negative test printed out on paper in English.
That was already a bit stressful for the first day... I continued at the check-in counter, where there was already a lot going on.
Für die Einreise nach Thailand musste zwingend ein Covid PCR Test gemacht werden, der nicht älter als 72 Stunden war. Das Problem war, das ich bei mir in der Heimat einen solchen Test nicht machen konnte und somit einen Test für rund 150 EURO am Flughafen per Express buchen musste. Also nach dem Weckruf um 05:30 Uhr früh, ging es erstmal direkt zum Testzentrum, welches direkt neben dem Hotel war. Dort eben fix mit dem Stäbchen im Mund rumstochern lassen - gut 1,5 Stunden gewartet und das negative Covid Ergebnis via E-Mail erhalten. Nach dem ich das per E-Mail erhalten habe, gings nochmal zum Test-Zentrum um die Bestätigung des Covid-Negativ Test auf englisch auf Papier ausdrucken zu lassen.
Das war schonmal etwas stressig für den ersten Tag... Weiter gings dann am Check-In Schalter, wo schon einiges los war.

At the check in counter was already quite a long line of people waiting. 4 counters for economy class + 2 counters for business class checked in the passengers. When it was finally my turn after about 1 hour, I gave the good lady all the necessary data and documents I need to enter Thailand. Only at the booked SHA+ hotel there was a short time a little problem, what could be regulated then, however, also.
Finally checked in! And now on to the security check and into the security area of the airport. Since the check-in already took so long, there was not so much more time at the gate to relax a bit. Therefore, went first in the smoking lounge and at the kiosk, get a few snacks. There I was amazed bad :D 2 drinks and 2 Snickers for 10 EURO :D But good, vacation... that's okay.
Check In am Thai Air Checkin Schalter mit gefühlt 2000 Dokumenten zur Einreise...
Am Check In Schalter war schon eine recht lange Schlange an Menschen die gewartet hat. 4 Schalter für die Economy Klasse + 2 Schalter für die Business Klasse haben die Fluggäste eingecheckt. Als ich nach ca. 1 Stunde endlich dran war, gab ich der guten Dame alle benötigten Daten und Dokumente, die ich zur Einreise nach Thailand benötige. Lediglich beim gebuchten SHA+ Hotel gabs kurze Zeit ein Problemchen, was sich dann aber auch regeln ließ.
Endlich eingecheckt! Und nun weiter zur Sicherheitskontrolle und in den Sicherheitsbereich des Flughafen. Da der Checkin schon so lange gedauert hat, gabs garnicht so viel mehr Zeit am Gate um etwas zu entspannen. Daher gings erstmal in die Raucher-Lounge und an den Kiosk, ein paar Snacks besorgen. Da hab ich schlecht gestaunt :D 2 Getränke und 2 Snickers für 10 EURO :D Aber gut, Urlaub... das geht schon.

So all in all a lot of paperwork that has to be done in advance.
I'm right now on Kho Yao Yai - landed on Phuket, was there 3 Days in West In Hotel and now relaxing in the warm Rain ;)
