[ENG-ESP] My first paper filigree "Cactus quilling"
WELCOME TO MY BLOG
I have wanted to do this type of art for a long time, I think that forming figures from strips of paper is something incredible. A few days ago, I was admiring the creations of @dayadam, I think they are incredible pieces and I was telling her how I wanted to try this technique but unfortunately materials such as ribbons and rollers were not available in my city, and she very kindly He suggested that I make the tapes with any type of paper. And after collecting some colored leaves, I decided to make my first piece. Once I decided on the cactus, I began to make the strips with the different shades that I would need and the appropriate size and then the need for the roller arose. After trying several ways, the use of the height toothpick with an opening in the center of it was the one that best suited since the same pressure of the toothpick held the neckband and could be easily rolled up. And it is in this way that I start this new and beautiful art of paper filigree, where I hope to be able to do many beautiful things and share them with all of you. I hope you like it.
BIENVENIDOS A MI BLOG
Desde hace mucho tiempo he querido realizar este tipo de arte, me parece que formar figuras a partir de tiras de papel es algo increíble. Hace unos días atrás, admiraba las creaciones de @dayadam, me parecen piezas increíbles y le comentaba las ganas que tenía de probar esta técnica pero que lamentablemente e mi ciudad no se conseguía los materiales como las cintas y el enrollador, y ella muy amablemente me sugirió que las hiciera las cintas con cualquier tipo de papel. Y luego de recolectar algunas hojas de colores, me decidí realizar mi primera pieza. Una vez que me decidí por el cactus, comencé a realizar las tiras con los diferentes tonos que necesitaría y la medida adecuada y luego surgió la necesidad del enrollador. Después de probar varias formas, la utilización del palillo de altura con una abertura en el centro del mismo fue la que mejor se adaptó ya que la misma presión del palillo sujetaba la tirilla y se podía enrollar fácilmente. Y es de esta forma como doy inicio a este nuevo y bello arte del filigrana de papel, donde espero poder realizar muchas cosas lindas y compartirlas con todos ustedes. Espero les guste.
MATERIALS
- Strips of colored paper: orange, brown, green, yellow, black 5 mm and 3 mm.
- White paste
- Stick height
- Brush
- Scissors
- Gripper
MATERIALES
- Tiras de papel de colores: naranja, marrón, verde, amarillo, negro de 5 mm y de 3 mm.

STEP BY STEP // PASO A PASO
MAKING PAPER STRIPS
With the guillotine I started making strips of paper 3 mm and 5 mm wide by 28 cm long, in different colors.
HACIENDO TIRAS DE PAPEL
Con la guillotina comencé realizando las tiras de papel de 3 mm y 5 mm de ancho por 28 cm de largo, en diferentes colores.
VASE OR PLANTER
To make the basket we will use 30 strips of paper 5 mm wide by 28 cm long. We join all the strips by placing a little white glue at the ends.
VASIJA O MACETERO
Para realizar la cesta utilizaremos 30 tiras de papel de 5 mm de ancho por 28 cm de largo. Unimos todas las tiras colocando un poco de pega blanca en las puntas.
ENROLLADOR
We take a cutter and make a 5 mm opening in the height toothpick.
ENROLLADOR
Tomamos un cortador y realizamos una abertura de 5 mm en el palillo de altura.
We introduce the tip of the strip into the opening of the toothpick and begin to roll until we finish all the strips that we have joined. We adjust as we roll so that it fits us well. At the end, we put glue and seal.
Introducimos la punta de la tira en la abertura del palillo y comenzamos a enrollar hasta finalizar todas las tiras que hemos unido. Vamos ajustando a medida que vamos enrollando para que nos quede bien apretada. Al finalizar, colocamos pega y sellamos.
We begin to give it the shape of a vase by pressing on the center of the wheel and stretching little by little until obtaining a height of approximately 2.5 cm. With the brush we add enough glue to the inside of the vase and let it dry well.
Comenzamos a darle forma de vasija realizando presión en el centro de la rueda y estiramos poco a poco hasta obtener una altura de 2.5 cm aproximadamente. Con el pincel agregamos suficiente pegamento or la parte interior de la vasija de dejamos secar bien.
To give the vase more volume, we join orange strips of the same size, add a little glue and roll around the contour of the vase and when finished we seal with glue as well.
Para darle más volumen a la vasija, unimos tiras naranjas de la misma medida, agregamos un poco de pega y enrollamos por el contorno de la vasija y al terminar sellamos con pega igualmente.
To make the handles, we take a 5mm wide x 28cm long strip and cut it in two. We make a loose roll with one of the halves, which means rolling and then loosening the roll until reaching 1 cm. We put glue and then we make a crescent-shaped fold. We make two identical pieces.
Para realizar las asas, tomamos una tira de 5mm de ancho x 28cm de largo y cortamos en dos. Realizamos un enrollado flojo con una de las mitades, lo que significa enrollar y luego soltar el rollito hasta alcanzar 1 cm. Colocamos pegamento y luego hacemos un doblez en forma de media luna. Realizamos dos piezas iguales.
We put glue on each of the ends of the handles and glued to the vessel.
Colocamos pegamento en cada uno de los extremos de las asas y pegamos a la vasija.
EARTH
To fill the vessel we will make a brown wheel for the earth. We will take 28 strips of 3 mm by 28 cm and we will glue them together. We roll up tightly and seal at the end with glue.
TIERRA
Para rellenar la vasija realizaremos una rueda en color marrón para la tierra. Tomaremos 28 tiras de 3 mm por 28 cm y las uniremos con pega. Realizamos el enrollado bien ajustado y sellamos al finalizar con pega.
We added glue to the edge of the vessel and placed the wheel without applying much pressure.
Agregamos pegamento en la orilla de la vasija y colocamos la rueda sin hacer mucha presión.
FORMING CACTUS
To make the pieces of the cactus we are going to need 27 green strips of 5 mm by 28 cm.
We will begin by making the first sheet by taking two strips. We glue them together and roll loosely. We take out of the reel, loosen just a little and stick. Then we press in the center to flatten and give it an oval shape. We will make two pieces of this.
FORMANDO LOS CACTUS
Para realizar las piezas del cactus vamos a necesitar 27 tiras de color verde de 5 mm por 28 cm.
Comenzaremos realizando la primera hoja tomando dos tiras. Las unimos con pegamento y enrollamos sin apretar. Sacamos del enrollador aflojamos sólo un poco y pegamos. Luego realizamos presión en el centro para aplanar y darle forma oval. De ésta realizaremos dos piezas.
We will make 4 more sheets in the same way but we will vary the number of strips for each one:
- We take 3 strips, join them and form the third sheet.
- Then we take 5 strips and form another sheet. We will also make two pieces of this one.
- And finally we make a sheet with 10 strips, which will be the base to form the cactus.
Realizaremos 4 hojas más de la misma manera pero variaremos la cantidad de tiras para cada una:
- Tomamos 3 tiras las unimos y formamos la tercera hoja.
- Luego tomamos 5 tiras y formamos otra hoja más. De ésta también haremos dos piezas.
- Y por último hacemos una hoja con 10 tiras, que será la base para formar el cactus.
CACTUS FLOWER
For the flowers we will need 2 yellow strips of 5 mm by 28 cm in two different shades. We divide each strip into three parts and take two of each shade to form a flower.
FLOR DE CACTUS
Para las flores necesitaremos 2 tiras amarillas de 5 mm por 28 cm de dos tonos diferentes. Dividimos cada tira en tres partes y tomamos dos de cada tono para formar una flor.
With the scissors we make small cuts 3 cm deep to leave 2 mm for rolling, in both strips. We glue together and roll up.
Con la tijera hacemos pequeños cortes de 3 cm de profundidad para dejar 2 mm para el enrollado, en ambas tiras. Unimos con pegamento y enrollamos.
We add glue and once the flower is dry, we open it with our fingers until we get the open petals. We will make two more pieces of this.
Agregamos pegamento y una vez bien seca la flor, con los dedos abrimos hasta obtener los pétalos abiertos. De ésta haremos dos piezas más.
GLUING THE PIECES
We begin by forming the cactus on the table and then we place glue dots and we fix each of the leaves. We let it dry very well.
PEGANDO LAS PIEZAS
Comenzamos formando el cactus en la mesa y luego colocamos puntos de pegamento y vamos fijando cada una de las hojas. Dejamos secar muy bien.
We add glue on the flowers and glue on the tips of the cactus leaves. We let dry.
Agregamos pegamento en las flores y pegamos en las puntas de las hojas de los cactus. Dejamos secar.
Now we add enough glue in the pot and place the cactus. We hold until it dries.
Ahora agregamos suficiente pegamento en el macetero y colocamos el cactus. Sostenemos hasta que seque.
And finally, we will make small rolls of different colors to fill the vase and give the appearance of pebbles. We take 3mm strips of various colors. We add glue around the cactus and with the clamp we are placing each roll.
Y para finalizar, haremos pequeños rollitos de diversos colores para rellenar la vasija y dar aspecto de piedritas. Tomamos tiras de 3mm de colores variados. Agregamos pegamento alrededor del cactus y con la pinza vamos colocando cada rollito.
PROJECT COMPLETED
Very, very happy with my first piece of filigree paper. It's a beautiful technique, there are many things I want to learn to do and although I still need to fine-tune the technique and improve the cutting of the strips, I think this will be one of my favorite activities.
