My top 5 favorite classic songs

avatar

Some people might not agree with me but the 70s and 80s are eras with the best songs. I was born in the late 90s but I grew up listening to songs from the 70s and 80s and I still do up till now. My music playlist has a couple of old songs that were released over 40 years ago, most people usually wonder why I love songs from that era but anybody who have listened to them will find those songs intriguing.

I have selected five favorite songs from my playlist but it was very hard to restrict them to just 5 because they are all great and I love them all (that's obviously why they are in my playlist). These five I have picked stood out from the rest and without further Ado, here they are in no particular order of preference.

Lionel Richie - All night long

The first time I heard this song was in 2020 and it was from a random video I saw on Twitter. I instantly fell in love with it and I used Shazam to check for the name and artiste. I know Lionel Richie but I haven't listened to a lot of his songs (maybe 2 or 3) but this particular one got my attention.

The video even made me love the song more, it gives you a glimpse of how things were in the 80s, their fashion is somewhat amusing but I still see some of those trends today. The video comprises people from different countries and they were all having a party! You've got Europeans, Americans, Africans, and Asians all having a good time, I can't help but smile anytime I watch the video.

Jackson 5 - I want you back

The lead singer in this song needs no introduction because I am sure a lot of you know him but just in case you're not familiar with the name, Jackson 5 is a group of 5 brothers and the lead singer is no other than the king of pop himself; Michael Jackson!

I came across the song on YouTube while going through classic songs. I instantly love the video which is a performance on the Ed Sullivan show. There's something about a 12 years old boy singing a love song, the smile on his face is contagious and even if you're having a bad day, you just have to smile while watching Michael sing this song.

Marvin Gaye - Sexual healing

Radio stations in my country abused this song, they usually use it as an opening song whenever a love talk-show is about to come on but the funny thing is that the song isn't exactly a love song, it's all about what the name says (s*x), but it talked about it in a very good way which isn't very obvious, unlike most of the songs we have these days about the same subject.

What I love most about this song is the beat and the way it started, it's a slow mesmerizing song with awesome lyrics that can help you relax, it's therapeutic and apparently an aphrodisiac 😉. Another Marvin Gaye song I love is Let's get it on, which has been referred to as one of the sexiest songs ever. You can check that out too.

Phil Collins - Another day in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"

This song brings up a lot of memories of my childhood coz one of my neighbors played it all the time and even though I didn't care about the song or even know what it means, it stuck with me over the years and I love it now. The song sends a very powerful message which I didn't realize over the years of listening to it, but if you listen to the lyrics carefully, you will realize it's very emotional

Kool the gang - celebration

I never knew this band until a few weeks ago but I have known the song right from childhood, you will hear it anywhere there's a celebration coz that's what the song is all about; celebration! I stumbled upon the song on YouTube and I was like "damn! This old song".

The video is intriguing and I love the performance of the band. Their enthusiasm, rhythm, and energy will make you love the song, you might even join them in yelling "ya-hoo" a couple of times (I know I did). The song is still used today by tiktokers and YouTubers whenever they are celebrating something (like a milestone or something similar).

Conclusion

There are a lot more classic songs I love and I didn't even mention some legends like Celine Dion, Enya, Michael Jackson (solo), Elton John and many others. I have a lot of their songs on my phone but these five I have mentioned are currently my favorite, which means they might change in the future (probably when I am tired of playing them all the time). So, which of these songs do you know or have heard in the past?

Thanks for reading
