My best holiday vs the worst one
Hello everyone, how are you all doing today? Welcome to my entry for the hive learners weekly featured content and the current topic is "The best and worst holiday".

The best
It's always good to start with something good, right? My best holiday was back in 2019 and it was the Easter period. My university gave a one-week break for everyone to go celebrate Easter with their family and coincidentally, one of my friends had her wedding planned around that same time. I'm very close to her family and they see me as a member of their family, so I had to travel before the day of the wedding to go help them with preparations.
The venue of the wedding is in the Eastern part of the country (Anambra) and it is also my state of origin. I have never traveled to the East without my family, so it was very exciting for me to take that trip with my friend, who is the brother of the bride and also my roommate at the university. I got to the bus park very early and quickly took the front seat by the window but my friend disagreed and we argued about who should stay by the window, but in the end, I won 😆

I had a lot of money saved before that trip and I planned to buy food and snacks while on the road, that's one of the things I love about traveling. The wedding ceremony went smoothly and the best part was all the food and drinks I had free access to. My friend and I were put in charge of the drinks and we smuggled a few into our room and shared them later at night.
After the wedding was over, I stayed back for two more days to help clean up everything used for the ceremony, and after that, my friend, his younger sister, and I had to return to the south because school activities will resume soon. We took lots of food and drinks with us when leaving and this time we didn't take a public bus, we rode in an SUV and it was a lot of fun because we were playing music while singing and dancing as the SUV cruised to the city.

The worst
It has been over 5 years but I can still remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I was traveling with a friend to another city and we were to take a public bus. On getting to the bus park, we were about to pay the transportation fare and get our tickets but we heard another bus announcing a much cheaper fare, it was cheaper by over 50% and it was just too good to be true.
We decided to save our money and go for the much cheaper one, which means we will have more money for snacks and food. Right from the bus park, I was already buying snacks and drinks, we were happy that we got a very cheap bus. Halfway into the journey, the bus broke down in the middle of the road but luckily, we were close to a bus stop and we got hold of a mechanic.
But the repair was taking a lot of time and at one point, the driver and the mechanic disappeared for over 2 hours. Damn! We were stranded and unfortunately, we can't get another bus with the little money we had left. All the passengers were complaining bitterly and we regretted taking that bus. The driver arrived after some time and said he had to go to another town to buy the parts needed for the repairs.

After some minutes, the repairs were down and we continued our journey. By this time, it was already evening and we still had a long way to go. Long story short, we arrived at our destination around 11 pm and we had to call someone to come pick us up but there's another problem: our phones were off, the battery died earlier. It was very dark and there weren't people on the road, I was scared as hell that we might get robbed.
We had to walk some distance to look for a store that was still open at that time and luckily, we found one. My friend begged for a charger and he quickly charged his phone to have enough power to make a call. He called his cousin and he came to pick us up. What if we weren't able to locate anybody around? We will probably have slept outside in the cold.
I learned my lessons after that experience; Always have lots of money with you when traveling and never board a cheap bus that seems too good to be true. The bus wasn't even part of a bus company, just a random private bus and we didn't even think of the risk of getting kidnapped, I'm definitely wiser now and won't take such risks next time.

Great experience, it's a good idea to always prepare for uncertainties.
Definitely. I have learnt my lessons from those experiences
🤣🤣🤣 when i was writing my WAEC something similar happened to me. Back then students board the train for free but we didn't tell our parents. What we do is, we buy puff puff and other snacks at the train station and take the train home.
On a Friday we got to the station as usual and spent our money on different snacks only for the train to develop a fault. Together we all trekked home, following the train tracks. A journey of 1 hr maximum took us over 6hrs. The next day 90% of us fell sick.
Geez! 🤣🤣🤣 6 hours trekking? Damn! That's just brutal bro, and much worse than what I experienced, at least I didn't trek for up to an hour
Omo! I can never forget that day in my life. If you're familiar with Nigeria rail tracks you will know hiw uncomfortable it is walking on those tracks, sometimes we have trees covering both side and the worst thing is the feaces people dump on the track. It was an horrible experience.
I can imagine, I'm even thinking about it now and I can see how terrible that experience is and it's more than enough to leave a lasting mental scar on all of you, 6 hours+ trekking is no joke!

Sorry..but that worst experience is funny 🤣..
We both like buying food when traveling..I like eating chips on the bus haha..i don't like closed vehicles like vans..I have travel sickness and vomit when traveling for long hours.. But your lesson learned is really true.. We need to bring extra money when traveling because we don't know the unforeseen events and circumstances that may arise..
That experience taught me a very bitter lesson and I made sure I learnt from it 😆 whenever I'm traveling, I always make sure to bring more money than required, just in case there's an emergency on the road.
After a bitter lesson comes a good one haha
Exactly Ate 😁
Oh wow, I see our almighty Onitsha bridge... Happy to know we share the same state of origin in common 😊.
Haha, you must've really enjoyed that vacation with all the party rice you smuggled 😅... Things like that dey give man joy.
Aww, sorry about your worst vacation experience... It's scary in fact. Anything wey cheap get why e cheap. When it comes to matters like transportation, one has to put his security and comfort at best interest oo. Except when there are no choices left.
Thanks for sharing this!
Next time I will think twice before boarding a bus that is just too cheap to the extent that the price is half of the normal bus fares, that's how people are kidnapped or robbed, especially now that no where is safe in this country. Thank you for stopping by 😊
Aaaah, people and cheap things😂. Next time you won't try taking a cab for a cheaper price 😂😂.
😂 lessons learnt. I was hoping to save money but ended up inviting problems 😆
Sorry😂
I've always been scared of buses that their fares were too cheap when compared to others and they were not under any notable brand. Some people are not built for that kind ofbrosk at all.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
These days I don't even dare board an unbranded bus, aside the risk of it breaking down on the road, some of them might be kidnappers or armed robbers. Thank you for stopping by
Weddings are good moments to hope for. Your worst moment sounds so funny, I have experienced such too got home around 3AM. Thank God you got a solution at the end
Which you the best in this contest
I was very happy when someone came to pick us up, it could have been worse. Thank you for stopping by
It's good to have friends across other parts of your location which makes holiday sweeter.
I totally agree with you, that's what makes holidays more fun
Don't go to a cheap fare for bus next time @kushyzee because that worst experience might happen again.
I won't ever try doing that again, I have learnt my lessons 😆 thank you ma'am
