Vegetables in the home garden and simple food.

Hello everyone. How are you today? I hope all is well with you and your family. We're stuck at home again this weekend. Our autistic son's mood keeps swinging back and forth, and he frequently engages in self-harming behavior. My wife and I alternate caregiving duties for our autistic son. However, the primary care falls on me, while my wife takes care of the domestic chores and cooking. I still had some time in the garden today, so I continued preparing the vegetable beds from yesterday. I dug over the soil with a hoe and tilled it until it was loose to make the beds. Each bed is about 2 meters long and 1 meter wide. This time, I’m going to make about 5 beds. I plan on planting bok choy, spinach and crown daisy either this evening or tomorrow.

This is an example of my vegetable bed this time.

I still have time to prune the branches and remove the weeds along the home garden fence too.

I also took a walk in the home garden to check on the vegetables we planted last month. Most of them are starting to bear fruit for the first time. Even though there isn’t a lot yet, our family will have plenty of fresh vegetables to eat this month. And these are just some of the vegetables in the garden that I wanted to show off to you.

I’ve been growing winged beans since the beginning of last month. They are just starting to bloom now, which seems a bit slow for this crop.

The hyacinth bean is similar to the winged bean. They are beginning to blossom and produce fruit.

The smooth loofah and angled luffas I planted last month are producing their very first harvest.

Including yardlong beans and cucumbers.

My malabar spinach has four seedlings growing. I planted them using the seeds from its flowers that turned black. The old plant yields a small harvest that I can eat all year round, even though they are grown in a plastic pot near the home.

The Jabuticaba tree that was recently transplanted into the home garden mid-last month has begun producing new shoots and foliage.

The last vegetable I'm going to show you in this post is the brussels sprouts I planted 2 months ago. These 9 brussels sprout plants are steadily producing, and my wife've been harvesting them to cook with regularly.

Finally, let me show you our lunch. Today's lunch features a clear soup with mixed vegetables and pork, served alongside Nam Prik Ong (a Northern Thai pork and tomato chili dip), and a side of fresh cucumber. Choy sum, tomatoes, and cucumbers, my mother-in-law harvested them from our longan orchard (located about 600 meters from the home). As for the other vegetables, my wife buys them from a mobile grocery truck.

You have a couple of veggies around your house and that was awesome to see that you can always go to your backyard and get some veggies their for cooking in your every day meal. There were a couple of veggies that were growing now in your backyard, maintaining them was one way to grow them more and more.
