Have You Asked Yourself? Who Will Cry When You Die? A Book Review

Happy Sunday Hivers!

When I started reading this book, the first paragraph had already piqued my interest, especially when I read the line, "Son, when you were born, you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die, the world cries while you rejoice." Do you know who wrote the book?

Robin Sharma is one of my favorite inspirational writers. He is also the writer of the book that I really love, "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari." This book helped me slowly overcome my anxiety a few years back. After reading that book, I searched for another book by him and stumbled upon one titled "Who Will Cry When You Die?" The title immediately captured my attention, so I promptly downloaded it on my phone and read it immediately.

This book is not a typical book where every chapter is interrelated. Each chapter serves as a guide for the reader on how to live life with a legacy. We admit that not everyone is blessed with good parents. By that, I mean those typical parents who will shape their children's actions and choices in order to create a meaningful and significant impact in their life and the lives of others.

And there were also things that our parents have not taught us because they themselves do not know. So, for me, this book is a great help in becoming a better version of myself if I apply what I have learned from it. The first time I read this book was in 2017, and since then, I have re-read it as I always want to remind myself of the things I should do.

Have you already asked yourself these questions?

How many lives will you touch while you have the privilege to walk this planet? What impact will your life have on the generations that follow you? And what legacy will you leave behind after you have taken your last breath? The writer asked these questions and shared about Bernard Shaw story.

Bernard Shaw was asked on his deathbed, "What would you do if you could live your life over again?" He reflected, then replied with a deep sigh: I'd like to be the person I could have been but never was."

Wasting my time and energy on things that I know could ruin my life is something I probably wouldn't do. However, there are still many things that I need to push myself to do, so I won't end up like Bernard Shaw. Although I'm not sure if I can find the confidence to do it.

I will share here the things I have selected that I believe can help me become a better person and make a meaningful contribution to humanity. For me, what's really important is having a connection with humanity because if we don't, what purpose do we serve in this world if we don't care about humanity?

Every day, be kind to strangers. We don't know what specific person is going through, so if they are having a bad day, let's just be kind to them. We may not realize it, but our kindness can brighten up their day. And if they are already feeling down, our kindness might help uplift them even more.

See your troubles as blessings. When I was going through a financial downturn, it naturally made me feel depressed. But it's true that during tough times, you often discover new opportunities. For instance, when I faced financial difficulties, that's when I started exploring Hive. I learned about Hive and how to create a blog. And up to this day, I'm still active on the platform because it serves as a constant reminder that whenever there are challenges in life, there are also better or significant opportunities that await.

Spend your day without a watch. Without it, you won't hurry and you can better enjoy the moment because you won't worry about the time.

Bless your money. Have you heard about this? Before you spend your money, bless it beforehand, and then ask for the money to come back to you multiplied many times over. I have practiced this with the intention that the person who receives that money will be able to fulfill their daily needs with it.

It's really nice when you wish good things for others because when you sincerely wish for someone's well-being, it often comes back to you as well.

Take risks. That way, you won't have regrets when you're on your deathbed. It seems like most people go through this experience when they are on their deathbed. I'm not sure if I personally won't experience it in my life, but for now, I practice taking risks even though it can be challenging at times.

The writer provides several ideas to serve as a guide to becoming better versions of ourselves. These ideas include learning from a good movie, connecting with nature, getting a coach, learning to meditate, listening to music daily, stopping complaining and starting to live, savoring the simple things, not worrying about the things we can't change, collecting quotes that inspire us, selflessly serving, and living fully so we can die happy.

Life is not designed to constantly compare ourselves to others. It's important to focus on how we can improve ourselves. It's fortunate for those who have parents who have guided them well since they were young and continue to support their goals and dreams as they grow older. But for those of us who didn't have proper guidance from our parents, it doesn't mean we should just let life pass us by. It is our responsibility to educate, train, and discipline ourselves. As adults, we can't blame anyone else if we neglect ourselves. It's up to us to take control of our lives.

This book has had a huge impact on my life and has helped me learn how to navigate life and interact with people in a positive manner. However, I don't deny that despite my efforts to educate and discipline myself, there are challenging situations that I struggle to handle effectively. That's precisely why I feel the need to re-read this book so I can live my life in such a way that when I die, the world will cry while I rejoice.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!

This seems like something I'd add to my list since I'm trying to focus on self help books and motivational books recently. How long is this book... Or like, how many pages?

If you're a fast reader, I think you can finish it in 1-2 hours.
