How to create an NFT in on OpenSea (without gas fees)

(Edited)

If you regularly visit my posts then you know that I always wish to try new things, and share my experience with you - or even a tutorial about how I did it.

Today I thought I would try the free-minting (without any gas) of OpenSea - where I will create an NFT out of one photograph.

Why I am trying out OpenSea?
It is a popular NFT platform, it has the 'free minting' option and .. why not?

Let's see some stats about OpenSea

34 Million NFTs and 1 Million Collections, not bad, huh?

There are also a lot of followers on their social media

How to mint a free NFT on OpenSea

You will first need to create an OpenSea account, for which you will need a MetaMask Wallet
(You can check out the end of this post for more resources & videos)

1. Create a collection

You will need to have an idea what the collection name should be, I will create a collection for my most impressive sunsets and today I will post my first one

Visit: https://opensea.io/collections

image.png

Click on 'Create a Collection'

These are all the information that will be necessary for you to create your collection so be ready to provide it..

ATTENTION
Please make sure you select Polygon as your Blockchain - if you select Ethereum, you will have to pay fees.

Creating a new item

After you have created your collection, you are ready to create a new item

image.png

After you create it, you will be able to 'freeze your metadata'

image.png

After you finish, you need to create the item and you get a success message.
To sell it, you need to click on 'sell' - it is not done automatically.

After you click on 'sell' you will have to enter your price in ETH

I am thinking of the price

Screenshot(5).png

I finally decided to list my first NFT here for a much less price - only ETH 0.003
($11.60)

Before the item gets listed, you will need to unlock the currency & sign the transaction with your wallet.

You can find it in this link here

Also, please remember to add (import token of) WETH (Wrapped Ethereum)

What did you think about the process?
I found it very straight forward & very easy.
I may get back here tomorrow to add a few more of my sunsets

Please note that this is also very new from me, so I will be updating this post with more info as I continue.

PLEASE MAKE SURE that you have set the blockchain to POLYGON when you create the collection.

From now on, I guess it is about promotion of your NFT and that you really need to make connections if you wish to be successful.

If you have any tips and wish to share, please let me know below!

Thank you for visiting!

You forgot to mention that the gas fees are outrageously high. :(

Hi!
Yes, this is why when you make a collection you need to select Polygon blockchain, where no fees are charged.
In the link I posted, opensea explains the reason why it allows nfts to be created without fees

This is interesting. So the NFT you created is based on a physical or digital photograph you took? How about someone who paints? How can they creat NFTs from their paintings? If they upload a photograph of it what happens to the value of the physical painting and the NFT they would create?

Hi Liz! Thank you for this question.
First of all, my photo is digital. Second, I think that it is really up to you. You can create an NFT out of a physical art photo, and you could include the physical art in the price you ask (or not)
I still got some questions unanswered too. I used to draw, so I got some physical work which I don’t know if I should/will make an NFT in the future
For now I see that most of the NFTs are digitally created

Minting NFTs is very appealing to me. It took me a long time to learn that nothing is free on the internet.
Is there a drawback to choosing free mint over a paid mint process?

For real? That’s how I had to do? I will have to try that out

your guide inspired me to finally make an opensea account. Being bitcoin maxi I usually avoid dealing with shitcoins. But the NFT hype needs to be explored hands-on. So I minted my first item (yay) but the selling step did require a transacting involving gas fees. Actually a ridiculous whopping gas fee. That confirms my disgust in the shitcoin involved.

So when selling a 0.03 ETH item involves 0.025 fee, I keep naked beach just for myself. Will next explore NFT on a proper chain: as colored satoshis on LN :)

So sorry to hear that! Check out my screen shot, I have selected Blockchain = Polygon and created the NFT without fees. I see in your link that you selected Eth as your blockchain. You can also read the link I posted or see the video!
So sorry this happened to you ..

You need to stake more BEER (24 staked BEER allows you to call BEER one time per day)

ah, using Polygon is the trick, thanks for clearing that up. I thought since the cool guys with the expensive apes and stuff use ETH so I will do that too :D
Nothing to be sorry for, I of course declined the transactions with the high gas feed and that way lost nothing :)

wow, great info. I've been wanting to create NFT's just for fun without worrying about selling them so this is a nice option !
