Greece just has so much to offer. This time up: Lefkas!

For absolutely no good reason I wasn't the biggest fan of travelling to Greece and so I did not do that for a long time. I have absolutely no idea on what this was based, because how wrong could I have been about it!

Greece is just absolutely stunning and deserves tons of visits and I have no idea why I was so doubtfull about heading here because honestly...Greece just has a lot to offer! Especially when heading towards all of these islands, there is not way you can not be enthousiastic about being here.

Wow just look at these colours in the sunsets when looking towards the water in the distance. This shot was taken from the mainland and looking towards the Lefkas region.

Lefkas

Lefkas is a medium sized island just below Corfu (you can already debate if it is really an island because it is connected to the mainland by a pontoon bridge which opens every hour for about 10 minutes, so most of the time it is connected to mainland :D) and is actually known because of its watersports because it has a fantastic inner sea region, with all kinds of islands surrounding it.

The best way tot discover the region? 100% by taking a boat and exploring the waters. While Lefkas itself has a decent main road on the island, also a lot of bays are not easily reachable and these roads towards them are known for their steepness.

It just feels like the whole island just ends up in the sea as you can also see the immediate depth of the water just a couple meters behind the shoreline.

Which is also cool because it makes these kinds of caves come on in where you can swim or take a canoe in there to just head inside. Snorkeling in the cave? Why not!

Chillmode engaged!

The whole vibe around the Lefkas region is just all really slow and laid back. Honestly, I don't it has been discovered by the big players already there since especially now in pre season it was still very quiet. Also in winter time hardly any flights from other countries land at Aktio airport and only inland flights are the access from further down.

This surely is not the typical place where everyone easily steps in and that shows. In winter time the climate is mediterranean but cold als also with quite some rain, which you could see now because everything was still very green. In summertime the temperature rises by the day and with that also the water tempature which was very accessable on the last day and still a but chilly on the first day. Crazy right?

And the prices over there? Definately somewhere that will not break you pocket. Because there are not a lot of big hotels you can book a room in a guestrhouse with more than reasonable prices and not that many people over there.

Also the price of food looks like it didnt suffer from the inflation from last year and that makes it pleasant to move around.

Half a liter of white wine? For 5 bucks you are set, and even with this Retsina from the snap below (retsina is actually the local drink from Corfu island, but hey this aint that far away) is just a nice refreshing summer drink for also about the same price.

As you can imagine, I had a great time here and it was cool to learn a lot more about the Lefkas region which I hope stays more of the quiet region but the next couple of years. My guess is that I will head back over there a bit more often, because the island and the islands around it were lovely!
