30-Day Blogging Challenge-Part3A-#26(1).png

Hello everyone. Hope you're having a good week so far, and as of this writing, you're in good health. On this day 26 of the 30-Day Blogging Challenge, I need to seriously consider a question we all must ponder at some point in our lives... whether I feel like I do enough for the environment. My answer is definitely "NO". I'm an ordinary citizen living among other ordinary citizens in my city and state. The efforts I undertake to help in saving our environment is minimal. However, I do what I can with what I have to work with.

Knowing that every individual on this planet does contribute to the decline of the environment, it's important to first understand how we help in this decline before we know how to turn our negative impact into positive actions.

We contribute to the decline of the environment by every activity we undertake. Although not on a large enough scale to do massive damage, our everyday actions help the downturn.

For example, below are some of the ways we can help:

As a consumer:
Every individual is a consumer. That means that the choices we make can help to reverse the damage done to the environment. I'm always conscious of the items I consume when shopping. Here are some of the ways I feel I've helped:

20191110_201751(2).jpg

  • Purchase reusable shopping bags. This may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the amount of plastic that is wasted each year, it's worth the effort. I stopped bringing home plastic shopping bags over ten years ago. If I forget my reusable bag, I ask for recyclable paper bags. I purchased a shopping bag from Whole Foods.

In addition to helping the environment by not using plastic, the food chain donates part of the purchase price to sustainability projects. In the alternative, I purchase another reusable bag and give to my children and extended family.

  • Use metal water bottles when outdoors.

  • Purchase recyclable packaging for products.

  • Recycle all containers we use. Our city provides us specific containers for our materials with a list of acceptable items. We make sure to place our materials in plain view where the city workers can retrieve them bi-monthly.

As a climate change observer:
The most important actions every individual can take is to reduce the amount of their carbon footprint. By that, I mean each person's total energy requirement generated by our daily activities. The most simplest examples are:

  • How I choose to heat and cool my home. I have an older, all-electric home. This is not the most efficient way to use energy for your home. So I have to find other ways to reduce the amount of energy it takes to cool or heat my home. Annually, I review my electricity needs to ensure I select the most efficient plan for my household.

  • How I choose to travel. Several years ago, I purchased two Smart cars. Made by Mercedes-Benz, these foreign made cars are energy efficient. The cars are designed to consume less fossil fuel. This helps reduce the amount of emissions into the atmosphere. I felt my purchase was an excellent way, although small, that I could help in my personal impact on the environment. Additionally, I choose to utilize premium fuel on refilling. But the most surprising fact about my Smart cars was that over 75% of its outer body is recyclable. And to think, I've made numerous trip across state in them.

As a supporter of environmental projects:
As one person, I can't contribute to a massive reduction in impact on the environment. What I can do, though, is support credible organizations that do. One such organization I support is 4-Ocean.com.

This organization is committed to cleaning up globally our oceans by removing plastic that's harmful to the our waters as well as the marine life and ecosystems supported. I just love my products I purchased utilizing the recycled plastics from the clean ups. I've bought mask supports, bracelets. and other items.

It's satisfying to know that I helped in this endeavor as the organization promises that for every product purchased, one pound of trash will be pulled from our oceans. That's more than I can do.

In addressing this serious issue on our planet, there's not a huge impact one individual can do. However, together we can make a difference.

Funny that the first thing you write about are re useable bags. In sewing class we make them. From fabric that is left over from patterns.
And these days we as a family support the ocean clean up
So great minds think alike

Great post @justclickindiva. Continuous awareness of environmental issues and our personal impacts goes a long way towards combatting the problems we face. My 8-year-old son would greatly approve 😊he did a Geography project recently whose remit was to create a poster showing an environmental issue and a solution to it. Well, he ran off excited with his coloured pens and paper and came back later with a write-up of Mr Beast and Mark Rober's TEAMSEAS charity fundraiser to raise $30m to remove 30m pounds of plastic from the ocean. They have partnered with Ocean Cleanup and Ocean Conservancy. My son even donated his pocket money to the cause. I am so proud of him and so pleased that we also have fantastic role models on youtube for our kids. !PIZZA !ALIVE

Thank you, they get it from us, from school...thankfully it's considered an important topic these days. Yes Mr Beast and Mark Rober are two Youtubers who are collaborating, using their fanbase/followers to drive change. They started with TEAMTREES another great initiative and now on to TEAMSEAS :-)

These are great ways to help out environment. If one person can do it, another person can. And if more people take it upon themselves to do it too, then we will be closer to keeping our environment clean and healthy.

The way I contribute to recycling, is to always make sure the plastic from drinks and water that I purchase, I reuse them. If I don't use it to hold water in the freezer for me to drink, I give them out to our local oil vendors

They put oil in them, and sell them to other people. These people who buy in those bottles get to keep the bottles, and use for future purposes. Mind may not be a lot but if other people do this, it will go a long way to help out environment.

This is impressive. Indeed, "together we can all make a difference."

We wouldn't have to worry so much about the this if everyone can habitually get accustomed to doing their bits in their own little way so that they can contribute in making this world more conducive for everyone.

Over here, people dump their wastes in people's farm and by the roadside. Some go to the extent of turning gutters into their dumping ground.

By the end of the day, this act of indiscipline endangers everyone and we all suffer the consequences.

I like this post. Well Done.

Another excellent thought-provoking action-oriented post from you @justclickindiva, I actually enjoyed reading this article. I kept thinking about the bags, we use permanent material ones and I have silly things like recycled chopsticks made from wood. I even have a handmade set that I made from a couple of redwood pieces off of the forest floor of the Santa Cruz mountains.
Hahahaha, it'reminds me of KFC vs. a salad hahahaha!!!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such nice compliment for my article. I appreciate your support. Another item I discovered were non-plastic straws. I love mine and have had it for years. It's off limits to everyone in my household.

A handmade set of chopsticks. That's interesting.

It's awesome when we can locate alternatives that work with the environment.

Take care, and have a good rest of your week.
