Miss Daisy and her Visitors | Macrophotography

When I began this post I saw a gray and rainy December day outside of my window. On such days it makes fun digging in the archive and search for nice Spring and Summer photos.

Miss Daisy and her Visitors
Miss Daisy and her Visitors

Let's begin with the main actor or better said with the main actress in this post: Miss Daisy can be seen in many different shapes and sizes, and sometimes she even isn't white and yellow, but in this post I show the well known white&yellow colored ones of the Daisy family ... and I show you some of the visitors she gets during the day.

Actually, I wanted to find some big insects in my archive and post them especially for @papilloncharity to show him how big our insects can be.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any which might have been able to compete with South African insects (what a surprise 😉) and let my friend open his mouth to say a surprised "oh", although the Hoverfly (Eristalis tenax) below was quite a huge one ;) lol

This green shimmering Fly (Lucilia) can quite often be seen and it is also known as Green Bottle Fly.

I am not 100 percent sure, but this guy must be a beetle called Hoplia argentea. I couldn't find much information about this beetle on Wikipedia (Hoplia argentea), but he must have been very tired, because it seems he is holding onto the petals and is sleeping.

Wikipedia says, the Lycaenidae is the second-largest family of butterflies with over 6,000 species worldwide, and I have no idea to which subfamily these two little beauties belong.

But I remember that they have been flying together and had much fun waiting for me to get in position for a photo and then suddenly fly to the next flower. These are the only reasonable nice photos I could get until I gave up.

Last but not least, about a month after I have taken the above photos I have found this Longhorn Beetle (Anastrangalia sanguinolenta) on a couple of small Daisy flowers during a walk at the reservoir.

To end this post as it began I have one more photo of a small Daisy early in the morning. The sun was just about rising and the still closed flower was full of dew drops.

Well, while I was editing the photos and preparing the post the rain has turned into snow and the world outside is getting white again. I wonder how long the snow will stay this time, but there are still a couple of weeks till we will have a hopefully white Christmas.

By the way, I have made a wish at the Saint-Nicolas challenge for well-behaved girls and boys and Saint Nicholas has sent me a lottery ticket, which will hopefully win one day, and I have got a new badge ☺️

Information

All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and the SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM lens.
If you are interested in the image data, I leave all EXIF and IPTC information stored in the pictures.

Apart from the Longhorn Beetle and the last photo of the wet Daisy I have taken the photos in the end of May in my parent's garden.

Humble daisy... yet one of my favorite little flowers.
The sleeping bug look really cool :)

At first I thought it was dead, but then it moved - some insects like to sleep longer it seems 😉

I like daisies too, there are so many kinds of these beautiful little flowers, and all are called Daisy in English. In German we have different names for them, but Daisy is much easier 😉

Thank you very much for your kind comment, @ewkaw 😊

I think we call them all Daisy too in Polish (Stokrotka). Or it could be just me :)

Most of the very small ones are commonly called "Gänseblümchen" here and the others are named "Margerite". I have just googled Stokrotka and you seem to be right, because Google showed me many different kinds of these flowers 😉

I didn't realise that daisies are so popular with so many different insects. Beautiful photos @johannpiber.

I envy your St Nicholas badge. I didn't know about the challenge, and now is too late. Good luck with lottery. Is it Euromillions £175 million jackpot you play?

Have a great evening @johannpiber. Cheers !BEER

Good morning and thank you very much kindly, my friend @cezary-io ☺️
I have just mentioned in another reply that next Summer I could spend a day photographing daisies and their visitors only 😉

That badge is nice, isn't it? And I hope the ticket will win soon ;)
I play the Austrian lottery and also Euromillions, but only very, very small amounts and always the same numbers. The jackpot would be nice, of course 😁

Thanks a lot again, have a great day @cezary-io 🌞

Mother nature didn't have the time to create coats and jackets for the big insects to live in the snow Hannes.
So she sent them all to Africa 🤣

A wonderful post here with great photography and the fact that you have included the camera settings with every photo transforms it into a real professional post.
In my mind this is a $50 post (even if the insects are a slight bit on the small side)🤣

Blessings!

You can keep these big creepy creatures, Zac, it's enough for me to see a photo of these and of the beautiful ones in your blog from time to time 😉

Nice insects visiting, you can now say "variety vs size". Beautiful butterfly such a vivid colour, chasing butterflies still legal too.

Looks like this was a splendid day in May to enjoy the garden with all in it Johann.

Hope you get your white Christmas and the badge, did not even know he was out there!

I don't know if it's legal here, but I was chasing them only for the photos ... they flew and I followed them, would never touch these sensitive beauties unless they'd land on my hand on their own 🙂

It's always a pleasure to be at home and forget the rest of the world 😁

We'll see what the weather in the next weeks will bring, but I believe we can hope for white landscapes at Christmas 🎄

The post of HiveBuzz was a surprise for me too and I gave it a try 😉

Thank you very much Joan, hope you have a nice evening 😊

Another badge to add to your collection, alas I have been away from my Hive desk, sometimes chasing butterflies.... Many times just catching up with life that has been disgracefully neglected, perhaps I have been a bad girl and need to be here more often!

As always, nothing beats home. Have a great evening looks like more lightning storms on the horizon for us, Oh and humidity currently feels like a wet hot blanket outdoors. 😄

I don't know what I would like better, your weather or the snow here which mostly turns into gray mud 😉

I won't be much online either in the next days and weeks, and maybe I will even make a break, but I don't know yet.

Thank you very much, Joan, wish you a nice evening 😊

Hi Hannes. 😊

At first glance at your title I was thinking this was something to do with the movie’Driving Miss Daisy.’ 🙃 But you delighted with the beautiful unassuming daisy and her little visitors.

Along with the others, I have seen the longhorn beetle around and like it’s name.

Fantastic capture of the droplets on the early morning daisy dear Hannes.🤗

Have a wonderful Tuesday evening,

Tip

White Christmas holidays would be cool, and I hope it will snow again, because it has been raining again and most snow is already gone. But only here - in the higher regions they have got more snow than they need.

Most welcome@johannpiber 🤗
