"CATALYSIS" - An experiment with digital photography transformation.

tcats.jpg

Hello dear #Hive friends!.... Today I wanted to share with you a post where I show you the result on the digital transformation of some of my photos. This is something I've done before, but it's been many months since I've shared this kind of work here, so today seemed like a good day for this...

T01B.jpg

Maybe some of you who follow me here on #Hive (thanks for that guys) know from some of my comments that I am something of a "frustrated painter" as both my father and mother had some talent for painting and my father even used to participate as a juror in local and regional exhibitions very often. However, I didn't inherit those qualities, but I ended up doing photography after all and my very old father once said: "You finally found your way of painting"...

T01C.jpg

So, the fact that I grew up among people who liked the visual arts, perhaps ended up influencing my way of doing photography. In fact, it is very common for me to take pictures of objects and scenes that have a markedly abstract and visually anarchic character. These are the kind of photos that I like to use to transform digitally.

T02B.jpg

T02C.jpg

I do this as a kind of catharsis really. I like to select a photo which I have taken with mi "precarious artistic eye" :) and spend time editing it in various ways until I get a result which keeps the essence of the original image but at the same time says a little bit "what I see there"... That's why my transformation work is relatively light and restrained, although I recognise that in previous works I have transgressed those limits with impunity, but in this work today I have remained faithful to that principle of "not altering too much"... After all, I usually start from images that are already quite abstract.

T03B.jpg

T03C.jpg

I made two transformed versions for each selected original photo. So these eight images start from four base photos. I also added a clear frame to each of them to generate a sense of "painting being exposed"... Below, at the end of the publication, there is a brief account of the procedure and also the original photos used for reference.

T04D.jpg

SOMETHING ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS

I usually start from the RAW image and edit it with Adobe Camera RAW as if it were an image to be processed and shared without being altered...

Imagen1.png

After exporting to JPG I use Photoshop to make the first serious transformations that have to do with colouring, angles and the like.

Imagen2.png

This example procedure is based on what was done for images VII and VIII but I don't really have a fixed method for this kind of work, so I can use one or other editors, apply a great diversity of filters and very different fine-tuning depending on what I see in each image...

Imagen3.png

Imagen4.png

Filters, rotations, vignettes, blender brushes, texture effects... The possibilities are endless and I just choose the photo and transform it instinctively until I get to see on the screen what I wanted to see from the first moment...

Imagen5.png

Imagen6.png

Imagen7.png

Even an editor as basic as PhotoScape is enough for me to be able to alter the JPG image at will, so this is perhaps more of a "express myself" job than something with significant technical relevance. But in any case I wanted to include these images of the procedure as a reference for those who also wish to experiment with their photos and as complementary information to the article itself...

ORIGINAL UNTRANSFORMED BASE PHOTOS

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... The pictures are then exported to JPG format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.

Thank you very much for your visit and appreciation!

I like your transformation, I'll keep this phrase

  • "You finally found your way of painting"...*

I don't know how to draw, but I express myself through collages and AI art.

Although for many it is not art, for me it is an incredible world and an artistic advisor.
