"16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" is not the title of my most recent horror/suspense novel (in fact, I've never written a novel).... This is more like "An exercise in photographic anarchy".... Something experimental which I did a few days ago in a random street of my town...

"16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" no es el título de mi más reciente novela de terror y suspenso (de hecho, no he escrito nunca una novela)... Esto es más bien algo así como "Un ejercicio de anarquía fotográfica"... Algo experimental lo cual hice hace algunos días atrás en una calle cualquiera de mi pueblo...

"16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" is about taking the camera, attaching an old 18--200mm zoom and walking down a street taking pictures early in the morning.... It's also about disrespecting some rules regarding sharpness, composition, and throwing other basic paradigms of photography to the devil... Sometimes I need to do this on my own...

"16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" es acerca de tomar la cámara, colocarleun viejo zoom 18--200mm y caminar por una calle haciendo fotos temprano en la mañana... Es también irrespetar algunas normas relativas a la nitidez, la composición y mandar al diablo otros paradigmas básicos de la fotografía... A veces necesito hacer esto por mi mismo...

"16:9" are the width/height proportions I've used to crop these photos.... I find it an "intimate" format, there is something about the streets seen like this, which makes me feel as if I am standing there watching the scene live, I can almost repeat the experience, the smells, the temperature, the sounds of the moment of capture.... (Yes, at any moment I'll start to sound strange, so it's fortunate that not too many people tend to read my texts between photos).

"16:9" son las proporciones ancho/alto con las cuales recorté estas fotos... Me parece que es un formato "intimo", hay algo en las calles vistas así, lo cual me hace sentir como si estoy parado allí mirando la escena en vivo, casi puedo repetir la experiencia, los olores, la temperatura los sonidos del momento de la captura... (Sí, en cualquier momento comenzaré a sonar extraño, así que es una fortuna que no demasiada gente suela leer mis textos entre foto y foto).

In honor to a "necessary anarchy" I have even inverted some photos horizontally (like a mirror)... Then I look at them and the street seems different, as if it belonged to a different place... Because photography, sometimes, goes beyond the image itself and becomes a complex and delirious canvas... (See?... I'm sounding weird!).

En honor a una "necesaria anarquía" incluso he invertido horizontalmente algunas fotos (como un espejo)... Entonces las miro y la calle se me antoja otra, como si perteneciese a un lugar distinto... Porque la fotografía, a veces, sobrepasa la imagen misma y se nos vuelve un lienzo complejo y delirante... (¿Ven?... ¡Estoy sonando raro!).

I'm not placing the photos in capture sequence... I am placing them in an intuitive way... I like they talk about "time"... That is about"how" time is changing the same space rapidly.... Few seconds are enough and it is already another image, other sounds, a space transformed by an implacable time wich does nothing but advance demolishing everything... Only the camera freezes it for an instant and saves it...

No estoy colocando esta fotos en secuencia de captura... Las estoy colocando de forma intuitiva... Me gusta que hablen de "tiempo"... Es decir, de "como" el tiempo va cambiando el mismo espacio rápidamente... Bastan solo segundos y ya es otra imagen, otros sonidos, un espacio transformado por un tiempo implacable que no hace más que avanzar demoliendo todo... Solo la cámara lo congela por un instante y lo guarda...

I can't think a better place than the street to make this kind of experiments and that has to do with the characteristics of the streets... They are changing, ephemeral, complex, bipolar and sometimes even aggressive... (At least these streets of forgotten villages in corners far away from everything)... That's something I love about being here.... As soon as I set foot on the street it's like rolling the dice, you don't know what the image will be like, but it surely "will be"...

No se me ocurre otro lugar mejor que la calle para hacer este tipo de experimentos y eso tiene que ver con las características propias de las calles... Son cambiantes, efímeras, complejas, bipolares y a veces incluso agresivas... (Cuando menos estas calles de pueblos olvidados en rincones alejados de todo)... Eso es algo que amo de estar aquí... Apenas pongo un pie en la calle es como lanzar los dados, no se sabe como será la imagen, pero seguramente "será"...

At full zoom (200mm), trepidation begins to be present... Or is it me who is causing it? I don't know... But I am sure that the street, the people, the dogs and the fog "vibrate" and transform themselves in a random way.... It must be me...

Con el zoom a tope (200mm) la trepidación comienza a hacerse presente ¿O seré yo acaso, quien la procura?... No sé... Pero estoy seguro de que la calle, las personas, los perros y la niebla "vibran" y se transforman de manera aleatoria.... Debo ser yo...

In the blurred street, the children are already watching the "madman with the camera" and their voices give them away... They shout to each other, as one more "part" of that street full of overlapping and complex events... Each step is a universe shooting out, as if bursting into thousands...

En la calle borrosa ya los niños observan al "loco con la cámara" y su voces los delatan... Se gritan entre ellos, como una "parte más" de aquella calle repleta de eventos superpuestos y complejos... Cada paso es un universo disparándose, como estallando en miles...

I almost run to them, two run away, one remains there, seated, indifferent, enclosed in fogs, lacks and his bare feets... Then I steal a picture of him... Thus the magic of "16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" ceases as suddenly, in a spasm, as it started... Because that day, photography could not be rational...

Me acerco a ellos casi corriendo, dos huyen, uno se queda allí, sentado, indiferente, encerrado en neblinas, carencias y sus pies descalzos... Entonces yo le robo una foto... Así la magia de "16:9 STREET CHRONICLE" cesa tan repentinamente, en un espasmo, como comenzó... Porque ese día, la fotografía no pudo ser racional...
