The cost of kindness as a virtue of humanity

Humanity has evolved through a series of positive and negative activities with nature at its fulcrum, trying to bring balance to the world of men in collaboration with all of life and non-living things. Man has been the focus of life’s existence on earth, yet the same man has threatened its extinction, especially through acts of inhumanity to one another and persistent pollution of nature through conscious and unconscious means.

Man is a lovely being, the epitome of the creator himself, as the story is told in the Holy Books. Yet the heart of man was described as being so desperately wicked as to make the creator bring about the dissolution of his creations, leaving only a few. This curse of wickedness in man has continued to ravage our very existence, bringing upon us all the woes of pain, hurt, mistrust, greed, etc., causing us to wonder why the deviation from that which truly makes us humane

In the few decades of my existence on earth, I have witnessed and read of man’s plot against man, animals, and even the attempt to disrupt the balance nature aims to maintain. A fear thus constantly stares me in the face: will man be the downfall of man?

Kindness is a virtue I would love to see more expressed and practiced in humanity, a world where man would be kind to man and animals alike, using all at its disposal (including the non-living things) to ensure man and his life therein are valued. I do believe every human being has kindness in him, but such kindness is infrequently expressed, probably because of what the world has turned into, breeding a vast amount of mistrust among one another.

Would you agree with me that animals are kind to men? Animals have saved man on countless occasions, especially by alerting another human when one is in danger. Sometimes they sacrifice themselves for the life of man, as seen in dogs known to be human friends. With kindness exhibited by all, considering and loving one another just as we do ourselves, life on earth would have more essence.

Anybody can exhibit kindness, including strangers; perhaps the statement supporting the "ACT OF RANDOM KINDESS" (ARK) can be attributed to its doability.

Perhaps when I expected much from friends and those I held in high esteem, I was often struck by disappointment. People have been in positions to render help to me with just a pen or by giving me a complimentary card for a favorable consideration but have refused, making me wonder what it would cost to be kind.

When I got introduced to Hive by my onbaorder, @monica-ene , I saw it as an explicit act of kindness, for our friendship was just in its prime, and today I am a proud and glad beneficiary of her act of kindness. Perhaps the world can be better when we loosen up and show kind gestures spontaneously, even to strangers and those who are less deserving. It makes us more humane and is a reflection of what the world can be as a conducive and peaceful society.

Most often, being kind to one another does not cost us significant resources (financial or time), but its rewards could be numerous, both to the recipient and the giver. There is an overwhelming peace when we have shown some kindness, especially when we do not expect anything in return.

Beyond consciously showing acts of random kindness to friends, family, and strangers, I hope it can be inculcated in us as an unconscious and spontaneous virtue.

Thank you for reading. I would love to have your comments and contributions.

Hmm?
This is deep.
Really it cost us nothing to be kind to one another.

Hello there!
It is sad to see that this virtue is slowly losing its significance in the society. Kindness is one of the virtues we should possess.

Thanks for sharing.

Many people feel threatened if they help others to get close to them by climbing the ladder. However, blessed is the hand that giveth than the one that taketh.

A lot of things have changed in the world and we are slowly losing virtue, I can't imagine waking up to a day when there will be zero value left in the world.

It costs us nothing to be kind, and a little act of it can go a long away in the life of others.

You're very correct and I appreciate your KIND words. We can make the world a better place to live in by being kind to others (including ourselves)

As the world continues to evolve a lot of things continues to change, in our world today people find it very difficult to show kindness.

It is seriously sad how inhuman we have gotten in our treatment of each other. As little as a virtue and proper behavior can change our world.

Yeah, being kind to one another means is much. Sometimes, people feel being kind means doing all and all for someone. The little act of kindness we show can put a smile on a fainting soul.

I misread the title and thought you were writing that Humanity was a virtue and thought to myself..."Humanity? Humans can be pretty awful". Then I re-read it and noticed that Kindness was the focus. Kindness I can get behind and random acts of kindness are indeed a great way to soften an otherwise harsh world.

Unfortunately Kindness is where you think of other people's needs and try to help. I think today's culture is getting more and more focused on ME and not others. Very sad because Kindness is truly important.

Thanks for the post.

Haha...

My first thought was "God help us....because no-one else will"
...

Except there might be some kind people who will also help along the way :)

Kindness is indeed an excellent virtue.
