I would adapt if there were no social media

The last few days have been hectic for me and annoying. I was extremely exhausted yesterday, and immediately after I got home, I showered, ate something light, put my airplane mode on, and slept very early. I had plans for traveling but forgot to update my younger sister. I slept up until this morning, ignorant of the worries I had put my family and friends through. My younger sister had to call a work colleague about 5 a.m. this morning to inquire about my whereabouts. I felt bad for not updating my close relatives and friends, but I surely needed that rest. It was also an eye-opener that my absence was felt, especially by close friends and relatives, which gladdened me. My WhatsApp status is one place that people come to whenever they need to cheer themselves on. I am that meme lord you can count on. Viewers have appreciated me for my status, and some have sent me data or airtime as a form of appreciation. Here, social media has impacted many lives.

If there were a life without social media, I do not think I would want to be part of that life. Humanity has evolved to be a part of each other's lives, even those we know nothing about. We just want to know, hear, or see what is happening about someone else we know or may not know. Sometimes, social media is the platform where some people put their lives on display for the world to see (personally, I do not approve of that). These sorts of people would update social media even when they hit their toe against a stone. This reflects how much some people cannot do without social media.

Personally, a life without social media would be boring. The absence of entertainment news and information would affect me. I have become used to enjoying news, especially in Nigeria, perhaps because I just want to stay informed, not because I want to wallow in lamentations. I do not want to imagine me not enjoying that life. Twitter (now called X) is one platform where you can meet all sorts of people. I rarely visit Twitter, but I'm sure to see some salvage responses from people whenever I visit there. I get to enjoy cryptocurrency updates on Twitter because of the key contributors that I follow in the field of crypto.

A society without social media has its advantages, notwithstanding. I remember during the era of youths protesting against bad governance in Nigeria, the end-sars era, coupled with other periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic, people were advised to stay away from social media (even though that was all that kept us connected) because of saddening news flying about killings and deaths. You will agree with me that there are times in Nigeria, for example, that you will constantly hear bad news, such as car accidents, a father raping a daughter, stealing, etc., which can be overwhelming for our mental states. Perhaps this is one main reason that I flood my WhatsApp status to be a source of laughter to all that may be overwhelmed with stress.

I am tempted to say I would be indifferent, but like the Nigerian spirit in me, if social media has to be kept away, I'm sure I would adapt, even if it's over time.

Thank you for reading. I would love to have your comments and contributions.

Nice for you bro. I doubt I will be able to survive a social media blackout. I just don't pray for that day o

Going back to the days where there's no social media is something many of us will find very difficult..

I'm not a big fan of WhatsApp but I know I've seen people who go to WhatsApp mostly to watch people's status and keep themselves entertained with memes and other funny stuff posted there. That's one of the ways that social media helps to brighten people's day, especially in a country like ours where bad news is circulating massively.

I agree with you that social media entertain us in several ways but yes there's some bad News too and news become viral in short time like everyone is on social media and he see it.

I may like social media for the information aspect, I wish to stay updated on important matters not people lives(those you mentioned who wouldn't stop posting about their lives and making public their private lives) aside that I can well survive without it. Just a matter of adjusting to a different kind of social life.
Well done bro 🤗😂🥳
