(ESP-ENG) Nippon Sangoku | Anime first impressions review!

Here I am again with these exercises I love doing, which is nothing more than trying to predict how an anime will be, based on my personal tastes, by the time it ends. This season is bringing a lot of new anime, but more importantly, stories that look spectacular, and today I want to start with the one I decided to watch first: Nippon Sangoku. As of today, there are only two episodes, and I can already say that the word "incredible" falls far short of describing what this anime is. It's one of those anime that's different in absolutely every way, from the animation to the unique nature of its story.

Acá estoy de nuevo con estos ejercicios que tanto me gustan hacer que no es otra cosa que tratar de pronosticar o predecir cómo será un anime en lo que a mis gustos se refiere al momento de su final. Esta temporada está llegando con muchos anime nuevos pero más allá de eso con historias que tienen una pinta espectacular y hoy quiero comenzar con el que decidí sentarme a ver primero: Nippon Sangoku. Al sol de hoy apenas van 2 episodios y ya puedo decir que la palabra "increíble" se queda muy pequeña para lo que está siendo este anime. Es de esos que son diferentes en absolutamente todo, desde la animación hasta la particularidad de su historia.

We find ourselves in a kind of post-apocalyptic Japan, a country that once was as we know it but, thanks to a nuclear war, corrupt rulers, natural disasters, and a massive famine, has regressed many years as a society. This Japan now resembles a feudal society more than the futuristic one it once was—at least 150 years behind. This crisis led to the dissolution of all forms of government, resulting in the formation of three large feudal kingdoms. Our protagonist, Aoteru Misumi, a highly intelligent and capable man, aims to unify Japan through the power of rhetoric, intelligence, and pure strategy.

Nos ubicamos en una especie de Japón postapocalíptico, un país que llegó a ser como lo conocemos pero que gracias a una guerra nuclear, gobernantes corruptos, desastres naturales y una hambruna gigantesca hizo que como sociedad retrocedieran muchos años al punto de que ahora éste Japón se parece más uno feudal que el futurista de siempre. Hablamos de que se atrasaron por lo menos 150 años. Esta crisis hizo que toda forma de gobierno de disolviera para así formarse 3 grandes reinos feudales. Nuestro protagonista, Aoteru Misumi, un tipo muy inteligente y preparado pretende lograr la unificación de Japón a través del don de la palabra, de la inteligencia y la estrategia pura.

We know that one of these kingdoms is among the worst, ruled by terrible rulers who impose their will through force and fear, which gives rise to some very peculiar characters. Obviously, in these first few episodes, a series of events occur that I don't want to spoil, but they will somewhat shape the storyline. The first thing I want to mention and highlight is the animation. This anime is from Studio Kafka, and Amazon holds the distribution rights, which is why you can watch it on Prime Video. But getting back to the visuals, this anime is unlike anything I've ever seen before in terms of style, character design, and level of detail (even the eyelashes are in HD). Honestly, it's a spectacle to sit down and enjoy these 25-minute episodes. It's like a combination of retro style with the best of modern technology. I don't want to repeat myself, but this anime is very unique.

Sabemos como uno de esos reinos son de lo peor, tienen unos gobernantes terribles que se imponen por medio de la fuerza y del miedo lo que hace que nazcan unos personajes bien particulares. Obviamente en estos primeros capítulos pasan una serie de cosas que no quiero contárselas pero que marcarán un poco el hilo de la historia. Lo primero que quiero decirles y destacar es la animación. Este anime es del estudio Kafka y los derechos de distribución los tiene Amazon, de ahí que lo puedan ver por Prime Video. Pero volviendo a lo visual este anime no tiene nada que haya visto antes en lo que a estilo, diseño de personajes y nivel de detalles (hasta las pestañas en HD se ven), sinceramente es un espectáculo sentarse a disfrutar estos episodios de 25 minutos. Es como una combinación entre lo retro con las bondades de hoy en día. No quiero repetirme pero es muy particular el anime.

The story also looks like it's going to be quite something. I'm going to be all for anything related to Japanese culture and folklore, and while it's true that this plot is fictional, the similarities to what actually happened, especially during the Meiji era, are striking. In fact, the anime tells you right from the start: "any event is purely coincidental." These stories that delve into the heart of Japan with all its idiosyncrasies and ways of life tend to be brutal. What reigns in that time is barbarism, conquest through force and cruelty; seeing Misumi in the midst of that "chaos," an analytical person who is against the use of violence without reason, will undoubtedly be very interesting to watch. Survival will be a challenge for him, but I want to believe that he will succeed thanks to his level-headedness and calm demeanor.

La historia también se ve que va a tener lo suyo. Todo lo que tenga que ver con la cultura y folclore japonés yo lo voy a alentar y aunque es cierto que esta trama es ficticia las coincidencias con lo que realmente pasó sobretodo en la era Meiji son muy grandes, de hecho el anime te lo dice al empezar: "cualquier hecho es pura coincidencia". Estas historias que se meten en el Japón profundo con toda su idiosincrasia y forma de ser tienden a ser brutales. Lo que reina en ese tiempo es la barbarie, es la conquista a través de la fuerza y de la crueldad; ver a Misumi en medio de ese "caos", una persona analitica y que está en contra del uso de la violencia sin razón sin dudas será super interesante de ver. Sobrevivir para él será un reto pero quiero pensar que lo va a conseguir gracias a la sobriedad de su personalidad y lo calmado que es.

In terms of genre, I'd say it's a war drama, a thriller with a touch of fiction. I think the characters are fantastic, at least the ones we've seen so far. They're disturbing, strange, unsettling to watch, and above all, possess a deep-seated evil. Because yes, there's violence, there's blood, we see ruthless things; pure evil at its finest. If the anime has already captivated me in just two episodes, I can't imagine what's to come. I feel it will be another gem of the year; it's impossible not to like it and not be left wanting more. Again, I'm not telling you everything that happens so you'll go watch it, but I can already tell you that you'll be surprised. You'll feel excitement, sadness, vengeance, hope, and so on. Highly recommended. This anime needs to be more widely known; I think it deserves it. Here's the trailer.

En lo que es el género diría que es un drama bélico, un thriller en donde existe un poco la ficción. Creo que los personajes son buenísimos, por lo menos los que hasta ahora han salido, son perturbadores, extraños, incómodos de ver y sobretodo con una maldad internalizada muy grande. Porque si, hay violencia, hay sangre, vemos cosas despiadadas; maldad pura en su máxima expresión. Si en apenas dos capítulos el anime me ha maravillado no quiero imaginar lo que queda por mostrar, siento que será otra de las joyas del año, es imposible que no te guste y no te quedes con ganas de ver más. Repito, no te estoy contando todo lo que pasa para que vayas a verlo pero ya te digo que vas quedar sorprendido, vas a sentir emoción, tristeza, venganza, esperanza, etc. Super recomendado, este anime tiene que darse más a conocer, creo que lo vale. Yo también tengo entre mis favoritos para ver en esta nueva temporada de primavera este anime debido a lo fantástico que es. Es interesante cómo consiguió destacarse, no solo por su increíble animación y producción, sino también por la forma de mezclar lo bélico con el drama y la comedia de una forma que atrae bastante la atención. No es un anime muy común que se llegue a encontrar y menos ahora con tantos animes genéricos emitiéndose a diestra y siniestra.

Veamos cómo se va desarrollando todo. Excelente recomendación.
