(ESP-ENG) Inside Man - A killer with a special skill!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
In that constant search for things to pass the time I came across this Netflix miniseries that without having heard absolutely nothing about it for some reason caught my attention, plus it had one factor in its favor: it is only four chapters. After watching it I wondered, what is the most they would do for her family, would they kill for her, would they cover up for her? - All these questions will always haunt our minds as the plot begins its course and it will make us question things, not only in the family sphere but also in terms of human nature itself, about who we really are and how far we can go if we are pressured more than necessary.
Inside Man is a story where what deprives are the limits of people and that hidden mask of the same that almost never get to discover, that dark side that people have but for a smile, a uniform or a privileged mind is virtually invisible to our eyes. It is a crime thriller which is getting bigger as time and some circumstances occur, it is like a snowball going down a mountain, in the end we can know what the destination is but not so much what may happen along the way. I have to say that it is a story not suitable for anxious people, the despair that one lives in several scenes is not normal, this is thanks to decisions of the protagonists that really seek to play with the patience of the viewer, at least that happened to me. But well, let's go and talk a little more about this good miniseries.
This story begins with Jefferson Grieff (Stanley Tucci), a prisoner who is condemned to death but has a special gift or rather a very useful ability, he is able to solve any case presented to him from within the four walls of the prison. This means that he is always being asked to help others as part of his process of seeking to atone for his conscience. Among so many people comes an investigative journalist, Beth Davenport (Lydia West) with a case that is generating a lot of noise for her, the disappearance of a friend/acquaintance of whom no one knows or has any trace. Grieff will decide whether or not to take the case because for that to happen he must meet certain requirements.
On the other hand we have a vicar, Harry (David Tennant) a man of faith and church who is married and has a son, an ordinary, quiet family. What happens then? - That certain events that in principle and in theory should not mean much, end up becoming a serious problem, a problem that in unexpected and unsuspected ways will unite all these people in a single plot super disturbing and full of secrets. The only negative of this story is that it ends very quickly because it is one with a load of intrigue and rawness that really one as a viewer is not expected and that in the end ends up being even a little disturbing.
I want to start by talking about how this miniseries makes you feel. Right off the bat I guarantee that at no time during its approximately four hours you will be bored, there is no reason for that to happen because the plot is fast, extremely direct, it does not beat around the bush and the level of expectation it manages to maintain is always vital so that our attention is always focused on everything that the protagonists do. Now, it is precisely in what they do, or rather what only one of them does, that I as a viewer was driven out of my mind, because you simply do not understand how a person can make such bad and wrong decisions; at least according to my way of seeing things. And it is precisely thanks to this that I consider the magic of this miniseries.
As I said, this story talks about people's behavior, how we come to act in pressing situations or where things get out of hand and how, depending on all that, we can be classified by others. A murderer is worse than another if what he was looking for was to protect another person, a pedophile is worse than another if one of them has mental problems? - Everything that happens in this miniseries goes hand in hand with these questions and the appreciation of it will depend on which lens you look at it. In the end you are obviously guilty if you commit a crime but I think they play a bit with the search for empathy. There is also a premise that is stated by our prisoner and that is that we are all murderers, we just need the right person and a bad day. I repeat, it is a game of questioning and one unconsciously puts oneself in the shoes of the protagonists.
In general terms, there is an important drama because every decision involves an emotional and psychological cost, it is like saying that whatever I do will affect me, so I have to do what will hurt me less in the future, no matter how terrible it may be. It's a perennial angst that is conveyed to perfection by its actors. David Tennant, the vicar, plays a very demanding role, he is one of the main axes of the story and carries a lot of weight on his back and the truth is that he does it tenfold. He is a person with very strong convictions until it is his turn to decide, until it is his turn to act. Many of his actions are done in the name of God and the faith he professes, so seeing that internal conflict is very interesting and stressful at the same time. An extraordinary role if you ask me.
And Stanley Tucci is another master. A very sharp character, very intelligent, bold but with an evil that knows how to camouflage it very well. I think the scenes I enjoyed the most are his, all his interactions are super interesting, it's like being in front of a person who knows them all plus one, he has an answer for everything and gives them with a class and with a very self-confident arrogance. I would say that she is the best character of this miniseries and by far even though Tennant has also done a magnificent job. And thirdly I want to talk about Dolly Wells who plays Janice, another cornerstone in this story, without giving too many details is a woman who will give a lot to talk about, her performance is key to the development of the series, do not lose sight of her.
8/10, I was honestly surprised for the best. Despite being very short it is a very well done story that grabs you from beginning to end; drama, crime, anguish and a latent expectation throughout the series. You can find it on Netflix and consists of four episodes of one hour each. Here is the trailer.
