WE185: An Act Of Kindness On Christmas

"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end."

- Scott Adams

Christmas has long been associated with generosity. It can take many forms, both tangible and intangible, such as thoughtful presents or heartfelt acts of kindness. The latter is always more important to me than any material gift since it is something that will last longer. Something that will always be cherished and remembered.

The question on Weekend Engagement today made me remember the act of kindness I performed with the cryptocurrency I earned from blogging two years ago. I held Christmas gift giving on my previous platform at the time to share the blessings I received from the platform and my readers. An elderly homeless woman from my old neighborhood was my beneficiary. I was able to purchase her some items for the winter, and food using the money I made from blogging, and she was taken aback.

I hope the elderly woman will still remember my deed of compassion if we ever cross paths again. It was an experience I will never forget. I suppose this is known to my blogging buddies from that site.

If you could perform one act of charity and kindness for an underprivileged person this Christmas what would it be and why?

If I could perform an act of kindness for an underprivileged person again, I would choose this old woman I've been seeing under the bridge in my current neighborhood. She always seems to be asleep or sitting on the bench with her back hunched over each time I go to the market to buy food. I truly pity her condition. She seemed lonely, so sometimes I would sit next to her just to keep her company.

Seeing her hunched over hurt me. Even though I'm younger, my lower back hurts so much whenever I hunch over for an extended amount of time. How much more to an elderly woman? I wish I could make her back straight. I wish I could communicate with her in Cantonese well, be of assistance to her, or do everything else I could for her.

She had the same hunchback issue as the elderly homeless woman I previously assisted. She's the first person I remembered the moment I first laid eyes on this old woman. The elderly woman isn't homeless though, that's the only distinction. However, it appears that she is always by herself and lacks a family member to assist her with running errands.

I saw her for the last time in the final stretch of fall. It was becoming chilly outside when I saw that she was not wearing socks. She motioned that she didn't have any socks when I asked her by pointing to mine. When I saw her the following day, I gave her my fresh pair of socks. With the daily drops in temperature here, all I can hope is that she's using it now. I believe the reason I haven't been able to see her lately is the cold weather. She is feeble, and the cold outside is too much for her body to handle.

I would love to see her again so I could offer her a gift, perhaps some food and some items for the winter. Not only is this for this WE topic, but I have planned to surprise her with a gift this Christmas. Even if it's small, it will mean a lot to an elderly woman who is less fortunate. As a Caregiver for years, I have a special place in my heart for the elderly, especially the less fortunate ones. I find it painful to watch them struggle. At their age, they should be lying comfortably at home and being taken care of by loved ones. By being kind to them, I hope that when my mother becomes older and I'm not there to care for her, people will also be kind to her.

As the adage above conveys, there is no tiny deed of compassion. They can be transformative and hold great significance for those who are less privileged.

There are lots of Elderly woman everywhere who's been neglected by their own family. It's sad tmno, coz if they have a happy home, for sure they will choose to stay at home rather than stay outside in the cold. I hope makita mo ulit sya madam

Everyone will pity her for sure. I can't imagine the pain she's feeling... I wish she has a company this Christmas.. I don't even think she eats well...

So very many without in our country it is more conducive to donate into where systems have been implemented by trusted folk. Helping others is always rewarding no matter how large or small.

Happy Christmas.

There are charities here too helping less fortunate elderly. But giving some help directly will be another help to them too.. There are many less fortunate ones in this neighborhood where I currently live..

I remember about that old lady you helped a couple of years ago with your read.cash earnings. I wish everyone would be compassionate with old people, it is so painful to see them suffer.
May life shower you with blessings, Jane. Merry Christmas!

You have a very kind heart and I believe that you will meet with the woman and you will get the opportunity to help her again. To be honest I am feeling inspired to help like you did and I decided to save a small percentage of my earnings from blogging in the new year for the helping purpose.
