My last post about robots delivering food reminds me of some other unmanned services I've experienced while traveling. Today, let's have a peek at a hotel in Tokyo that doesn't have any receptionists.

This hotel I stayed in Asakusa is called Henn na Hotel Tokyo Asakusa Tawaramachi, and it's the first hotel in the world that offers a check-in service using holographic technology.

In fact, another Henn na Hotel in Ginza has been certified by Guinness World Records as the first hotel with working robots.

Here, you can do self check-in with the help of a dinosaur and other manga characters. :) They are three-dimensional images created by holography and give you audio instructions through the check-in process.

When I walked throughout the lobby, seasonal motifs such as maple leaves (it was autumn then) appeared every time my foot contacted the ground. The overall experience was fantastic, thanks to the light and musical effects.

From this hotel's rooftop, you can have a clear view of the Tokyo Skytree (shown in my first photo above), which is far taller than the famous Tokyo Tower (333m). It is referred to as the "new Tokyo Tower". According to Guinness World Records, it is the "world's highest tower" at 634 meters. After Dubai's Burj Khalifa, it is the world's second tallest man-made structure.

The room is larger than I expected in any expensive Japanese city, and it's very clean and comfortable, complete with a humidifier and an LG styler. The styler is a steam-powered garment care machine that can help you get rid of wrinkles, odors, and mites from your clothes. Each night when I returned to the hotel, I put my jackets and pants in there to soften them up, so they could be pampered too after a long day. :)

If you also like to have the unique experience, here is the hotel's address:

While not a hologram, I recently stayed at a large hotel chain in Sendai. All of the checkin lines were kiosks with 1 human in case there's a problem. I didn't like it at all. Felt very cold to me. I really hope this is not the future.

I understand what you're saying. With the pandemic, it appears that these unmanned services have become even more common, particularly in larger cities.
I miss staying in those countryside guest houses where you can chat and eat with the local families.
