Euthanasia should be a right

Greetings to everyone in the Weekend Experiences Community, I join the weekend initiative to express my thoughts about euthanasia, a very important topic but one that many people prefer not to touch. I invite @dayadam to participate

Time to die

Euthanasia, ending the life of an ill human to limit suffering, is a very contentious issue. What are your thoughts? Talk about being for or against it and the reasons you feel that way. Is there a valid use-case and if so, why?

As I understand it, euthanasia is legal in some countries, but for me it should be something normalized throughout the world. I particularly believe that euthanasia should be a right, but it would also be one of the things that would really make us human, understanding that Most religions profess piety and mercy, people in general should understand that assisting the death of an evicted person is avoiding prolonged suffering, therefore it would also be an act of love for others, I do not consider myself a believer at all religion, but even if it were, I would still agree with the legalization of euthanasia.

Most of the reasons given by people who disagree with euthanasia are of religious origin, because they attribute the will of their God as the only person responsible for life, but I consider that if a person believes that the soul exists or the afterlife, then you should be calm because you know that the death of the body is not a definitive end. But on the contrary, if a person only believes in science, they know that death is only a natural process, so in view of the terminal situation of a patient, assisting so that the person does not continue in that state would be the most responsible option. and empathic.

In the world there is a lot of talk about the fight for freedom, but it could be said that even when people live in a state that guarantees their life, collecting taxes to guarantee health and safety, if a person cannot choose for their own life then it is not completely free, that is, people should have the right to a dignified death as well as life. This is as far as the legal should be possible outside of moral prejudices.

Empathy should be a general principle of humanity, so we must put ourselves in the place of the sick person for a moment, understand that if there are no options to improve the patient's condition and the person no longer has any moment of comfort , where being alive only means being subject to incessant pain, or that the disease itself makes it impossible for them to have a rest or have control of their body, if the person makes the decision to want euthanasia, it is necessary to be respectful and help them to have a quiet death.

The great moral problem comes when the decision cannot be made by the patient himself, because his medical condition is critical, it is there that the family must take that responsibility, I believe that euthanasia should be legal but have clear and precise regulations where the law can be exercised but applied in each specific case, thus preventing the family from making a hasty decision, that is, the purpose is not to prolong the suffering of a person who is alive only connected to machines or whose body can no longer resist more because of age but for example, but when a person maintains brain activity where there are opportunities, the family should also be guaranteed the resources to wait for an improvement as long as the body does not present other serious deterioration, but if it is the case that a person has expressly decided to euthanasia, the government should guarantee the right to the person even when the family does not agree.

Hi Irene, I knew you would choose this question and I had an intuition about your answer, I like your arguments.

It's funny how one can change one's mind over time, I thought the same as you, now I have changed.

It is always a pleasure to read you, greetings.

Indeed that's also my choice. We have the same topic. Haha.

For me if someone is unconscious and very ill there are times we may be able to gauge if they are still fighting to survive or not. Somehow if we have a strong sixth sense as they call it, we can determine better if the sick person would like to leave the world already or not yet. 😉

Thank you very much for your comment, I hope that at least there is a legal basis that respects the decision of the people who want it that way

I think as you point out it is a matter of piety and solidarity. There are situations where keeping the body alive becomes torture, for the sufferer, and for those around. The eternal suffering of the sick person physically and mentally exhausts the caregivers. At some point we will understand that what is rational and humane is the right to decide that it is enough, that it is the end. A big hug from Maracay dear @irenenavarroart.

Exactly, the best thing would be for it to be legal throughout the world for those who want it that way
