#10 Intergallactic

avatar

The tenth prompt in the Infinite Doodle is "Intergallactic." I prompted DALL-E to create a cover image that featured a space ship traveling between galaxies with a nebula in the distance.

As for the meaning of the prompt: The doodle involves a binary tree growing inside a three dimensional grid. Each tile in the grid combines characteristics of both the grid and the tree.

The first quadrant started with the largest known thing. It started with the big bang as the big bang symbolizes the start of the known universe.

The second quadrant went in the opposite direction and looked at the smallest things in the universe which are often described with quantum mechanics.

This tile in the grid crosses back into first quadrant and looks at intergallactic travel.

The connection between photons (a subatomic particle) and intergallactic travel is that massless photons are know for taking intergallactic voyages.

People who stare into the night sky have realized that many of the stars are, in fact. Many of the galaxies contain millions of suns.

Photons are among the few things alble to travel the distance between stars.

Light travels at the speed of light. Light from distance galazies may have traveled billions of years before hitting the earth.

Conversely. If you walked outside and pointed a flash light at the night sky, the light from the beam which is not absorbed by the atmosphere might travel between galaxies.

Incredibly small things like photons and incredibly huge things like galaxies seem to be commected in strange ways.

Each tile in the Infinite is a prompt for an art contest. I lack the resources to draw all the pictures myself. Some of the prompts are quite difficult to conceptualize. How does one represent intergallactic travel?

DALL-E produced this picture of a space ship framed by galaxies.
