Childhood Lies My Loved Ones told me

Childhood is a stage to remember in life. A lot of amazing moments which are not easy to forget enrich the stage in human life, we unconsciously smile and we become glad sometimes when we remember them.

Quite some childhood moments make us happy, those happy moments are not easily forgotten.

Moments around our parents are fun to remember, we visit the stores, spend the holiday with grandparent(s), we play with friends in schools, we get protected by our parents from things that exist such as bullies at school and things that don’t even exist such as the ghosts under the bed.

Parents seek the joy of their children and most of the time, they want to communicate things but due to children’s little understanding, they won’t be able to communicate those things according to the way they exist. Sometimes, parents might need to lie to their children.

As the topic suggests, I will be revealing some of the lies that parents lied to their children, (myself included), sip some juice, and let's have fun while you read.

The first lie that I was told and took me a long time to discover

My teacher: Due to the little understanding, education is not as fun and easy during my childhood days, I attended a government school and most of the teachers were aged people.

When I was in class two, my mathematics teacher was teaching us subtraction. It got to a point when she had to subtract a figure from zero and she told us that it is impossible. Simply saying nothing can be subtracted from zero, or if you subtract any figure from zero, you cannot get any answers.

I believed that for a long time until I got to secondary school, I almost confronted my teacher when he subtracted figure 4 from 0.

I later realized that she would have put me into confusion then if she had tried to explain the arithmetic behind the subtraction.

Mother: I had a few sisters and when my mother want to make us stay away from home, probably, she wants to step out to visit her friends at home and don’t want us to come along, go to the market and buy foodstuff, she will tell me to go and call my sister and each time I return she would have left.

If I ask, “Mom, are you going out?” she will say “No” and I use to believe until I was growing older.

Once she says I should go and call my sister, I would just tell her to buy me something while coming back. My sister is always busy but she accommodates me once I say, “Mom is calling you.”

At a point, while I was growing older, my sisters were in high school and she would tell me to meet my aunt so that aunt can send her a gift through me.

I use to be very impressed because I use to come home with biscuits each time I visit my aunt, who is just two blocks away from our house.

Aunt will keep me in her custody for more than one hour sometimes, after serving me food and giving me a lot of things, I will ask for the gift that mom sent me to get for her and she will tell me that she will bring it by herself.

At a point in time, I realized that there was no gift to me than having my custody for a while.

There was no regret about all these lies, they were just because we may not understand them, even if they were explained to us.
