About 108 have liked this, and 66 actually downvoted it as of writing this comment. The community has spoken, now we will see if this holds up. People are free to disagree on an uncensored platform as well, and since the overwhelming majority feel tag spam is bad form, that makes it bad form. It was bad form before this incident. It will remain bad form after this incident.

I am normally a humble person and I apologize if I offended anyone that is not my character. I am an activist and I can think of a lot of ways that mass mentioning can be very useful to get information out. Although not on this scale, maybe ten or twenty like if I wanted to alert my followers of something happening in Yemen. Mass mentioning, judging by this thread is a big no no, but what about on a lower scale, or is all mass mentioning bad form?
I think everyone means well. I just wrote a post talking about how the truth can be so damn painful sometimes. This is what honesty looks like. And to answer your question, mentioning a few you know is fine especially if you know in advance they'll be fine with it. Community leaders do it for their community members but even that's not necessary since they can simply pin a post. But I don't make the rules. If I want to annoy someone all I have to do is come talk to them, right? ;)

Can you start uploading your content to Hive? Using a service like 3speak maybe? I've been downvoting those who simply share links to content outside and expect to get paid here, for only their video descriptions.
The issue I have with 3speak is that They require MP4's. I have over 70 videos I have produced in AVI because My free software renders AVI's at much better quality than it does MP4's. I truly do not want to go through 70+ videos and render them out as MP4's - I am disabled, and just making videos is a long and arduous thing for Me. To sit and try to go through the list... Well, it's beyond My scope of tolerance.

As someone who's been using decentralized platforms since steemit, I wish the downvote option would be done away with. I understand why it exists, but it is a very unfair advantage if you're a teeny weeny little fish. I've seen some great bloggers take massive hits even on hive very recently because some whale felt their payouts were just too big for the content. in a way that's a form of censorship since it can actually discourage people from posting. Fortunately it's never happened to me and I personally would never click that button knowing that I have virtually no power here and I could be eaten alive by just one whale. If it were up to me there would be no downvote but there would be a way to block an account if you didn't wish to have interaction or see their content. Just my 2 cents.
Spam vs free speach. Think there are a few behaviours for what downvotes are a good thing. Tagging in thousands is spam, not free speach and should IMHO be flagged down to zero, and on repeat behaviour, below.
What I do think is that we need a checkbox for safe downvoting. Downvoting cuts in reputation as well as earnings. We should have an option for earnings only downvotes I think. Reserve the deep cutting downvotes for repeat offenders.
