Wiggly Teeth and Flooded Streets

Coffee1.jpg
Roadwork has shaken up my morning routine these days. Oh, how spoiled I was last week, not appreciating that the school bus for my daughter came right to my door!

Although her temporary bus stop for the next four weeks is only a few minutes walk, the change really couldn't have come at a worse time of the year.

We just experienced below freezing temperatures, which made this brief walk a bit stressful with a two-year-old in tow.

My son Emory will do anything to be outside, but even he wasn't having it.

Today I was thrilled to find that it wasn't cold at all outside when I woke up. At a bit over 40 degrees Fahrenheit, it was practically spring by Midwest standards!

I made a double espresso, and bundled the little guy up so we could take a walk after the bus picked his sister up. Gosh did we need it!

WW1.jpg
One of the first things we noticed was that the several inches of snow we had on the ground yesterday had melted away.

This made for lots of slush on the sidewalks, which Emory happily stomped in as we walked Thea to her stop.

Some parts of the street were so flooded that there were cautionary signs lined up on the roadside.

One of the worst parts on our street was right next to the bus stop. We watched as cars made waves in the enormous puddle as they passed through it. The water would shift towards the sides of the road, then swell back to fill in the gaps.

WW2.jpg

It was really mesmerizing. Were I kid free and toasty, I could probably watch that process for many hours...

WW3.jpg
Once big sis was on her way to another day of learning, I let Emory roam. He hasn't been outside much lately due to the weather, and I could see so much joy in his face from the freedom.

He'd run 50 yards in one direction, then abruptly turn and run back the other way. We probably walked 2 miles, yet never left the same 1000 feet haha!

Although he declined my suggestion for gloves this morning, he still decided to dip his fingers into the snow. With the temps so moderate, I let him explore the texture, knowing home was nearby should his fingers get too red.

He seemed to really get a kick at how fast snow melts, fading from your fingertips before your eyes...

WW4.jpg
Look at him go!

He has a mission, and only he needs to be aware of it. I watch as he excitedly talks about what he is seeing, catching maybe one in every seven words.

His vocabulary is growing rapidly these days. We picked up "slippery" and "flood" just on this walk. I expect he'll have the whole kit here soon!

One thing I noticed was that he was uncertain about the foggy weather. As we walked, he would stop and point to the vague outline of something moving in the distance.

"I'm not sure about that" His small face expressed, and he would reach for my hand each time.

Of course, caution has a shelf life when you are so small, and soon he would be back to running laps on the sidewalk.

WW5.jpg

His eyes found all of the different paw prints in the snow, and we talked a bit about what animals they were from. We have lots of folks who walk their dogs in the neighborhood, as well as a hearty deer population. Here Emory is taking a closer peek at some dog prints.

As for the deer tracks, they brought some excitement. Emory loves loves loves deer. When one is walking by our house, it is an event for celebration. So, when I was explaining the tracks, of course he was looking for actual deer!

Although we didn't see any of those, we did have a great walk together. I think we made it for a little over an hour before Emory looked at me and said, "Home momma."

The day passed by, and then it was time to go retrieve our Thea. Well, she had a surprise... She lost her first tooth!

We had to go grocery shopping, and as we checked out she told the cashier all about it. Well, this sweet lady must've had a really big heart. She gave Thea a bundle of flowers and some stickers, celebrating her victory with her.

It was super touching, and the perfect way to wrap up a great day. Hopefully winter shimmies on by quickly, and we are back to walking all the time again soon!

Thank you for checking out our little adventure! 🤗

I hope so too, I'm always so relieved when winter is finally over (although we still have a few more months of it where I live)... Until then I'm holding spring in my heart haha! I appreciate you taking the time to comment, wishing you an awesome day! 😁

Oh wow that snap of Thea looks just like you :D
That's Trader joe's, right? Oh how I love that store, and miss it, my closest TJs is about 80 miles away in a direction I rarely go :(

Looks like a perfect day out with a little kid; snow, slush, puddles!, and everything. Awesome.

That made me smile so much to read! Everyone says Thea looks like her dad, but I adamantly disagree !LOLZ 👯 She's totally my mini me 💗😄

And YES! Trader Joe's is seriously the best, even with inflation their stuff has remained well-priced, and it's mostly made with such mindful ingredients! I actually made a joke yesterday that as a 30-year-old woman you should have a favorite grocery store, and mine is 100% TJs! I get giddy in there 😂

I'm bummed to hear it's so far from you, I'm manifesting a TJs for ya bud. If we can get them here in Ohio, you gotta have a shot at getting one closer to you too!

Haha thanks for checking out our adventure duder 🤗 Hope your year is treating you well so far! 💚 !LUV !PIZZA !PIMP

Also, I hope they fix the fix soon so you won’t have to start taking a walk to your daughter’s bus

A fabulous day in your life!

Such a change in temps the last few days. Here too. We went from barely over freezing in the daytime, to 65 degrees right now. My bicycle misses me and we may be reunited soon. But not today. Warm but raining :/

Thanks for sharing the wonderful words and pics! :)

The temp change is seriously a shock! I can't recall such a big change from week to week in my life before... whew. I hope it's done doing that for the year !LOLZ

I hope the rain knocks it off soon and you can get back to biking! I can imagine that the colder months make for great biking weather there, not so much humidity!

Thanks for checking out our little adventure Kenny 🤗

What fun times! Thea is just like a "mini-me" of you! So sweet that the cashier helped her celebrate the big tooth event! 😊

Shucks, now two people on this thread have said Thea looks like me- now I can use that for fodder irl when ppl say she looks like her dad hehe 💗

That cashier was so cool, I left a review about how nice she was... it's so refreshing to meet people like her when out and about, reminds me that life is magic.

Hugs your way Kitty! 🤗

I love it how you tell us about these little things in life that are actually all that matters. Thank you.

For kids, deer tracks and lost tooth are huge events. Everything is huge for them.

these little things in life that are actually all that matters.

I really like how you expressed that; life is about all of the little things. 💚😄 I feel so blessed that I get to experience how monumental these "small" things are to my children; to live in my own inner child so much through their perspectives.

Thank you for this wonderful comment! 🤗

A little sunshine from these parts of the world would solve your snow problem in a snap! I love your kids' names; Thea is beautiful and looks just like you, minus one tooth 😌 And Emory is a sweetheart; I think his scientific and animal loving mind is protected by her innate caution, haha.

Motherhood is so busy, but children give us beautiful days, which make up for everything.

Gosh, I would sure love some of your weather here... it will not be too long before I live somewhere with a more hospitable climate I think!

Thea is beautiful and looks just like you, minus one tooth 😌

Shucks, 💗🤗 thank you so much hehe! Both of their names are very special to me, so this made me really happy to read. And oh my goodness,

I think his scientific and animal loving mind is protected by her innate caution, haha.

This is such an accurate observation hahaha! I love it 😂 I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me this thoughtful comment! 🤗
