Landscapers | My impressions and review of the series

Hello, hello, my dear cinephiles, first of all, I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year with lots of health, and of course with good audiovisual proposals to enjoy this 2022.

Today I am going to share with you my first review of the year, these days I have seen many movies and series, yesterday I happened to have the opportunity to watch a miniseries that I had numerous reasons to like and the truth was that I loved it; the first is that it is based on real events, the second is that it is a crime drama, and the third is that it stars two great British actors: Oscar winner Olivia Colman, the woman who played Queen Elizabeth in the series The Crown, and David Thewlis, the always remembered Professor Remus Lupin from Harry Potter.

Hola, hola, mis estimados cinéfilos, antes que nada les deseo a todos un feliz y próspero año nuevo con mucha salud, y por supuesto con buenas propuestas audiovisuales para disfrutar este 2022.

Hoy les voy a compartir mi primera reseña del año, estos días he visto muchas películas y series, ayer casualmente tuve la oportunidad de ver una miniserie que tenía numerosas razones para gustarme y la verdad fue que me encantó; la primera es que está basada en hechos reales, la segunda es que se trata de un drama criminal, y la tercera es que está protagonizada por dos grandes actores británicos: la ganadora del Oscar, Olivia Colman, la mujer que encarnó a la Reina Isabel en la serie The Crown, y por David Thewlis, el siempre recordado profesor Remus Lupin de Harry Potter.

The miniseries entitled Landscapers is developed in 4 chapters that tell the story of Susan and Christopher Edwards, a couple who flee to France after committing a crime in England that sentenced them to 25 years in prison in 2013, 15 years after the disappearance of Susan's parents. A sentence that today they consider unjust, as they both maintain that they are innocent.

La miniserie titulada Landscapers se desarrolla en 4 capítulos que relatan la historia de Susan y Christopher Edwards, una pareja que huye a Francia tras cometer un crimen en Inglaterra que los condenó a 25 años de prisión en el 2013, 15 años después de la desaparición de los padres de Susan. Sentencia que hoy por hoy consideran injusta, pues ambos sostienen que son inocentes.

Susan and Chris were accused of murdering Patricia and William Wycherley, Susan's parents, and of burying them in the back garden of their home, claiming for 15 years that the elderly were traveling, while they received and lived on their pensions. Two "mistakes" led them to be investigated until they were condemned; first, to continue collecting the pension when one of the elderly was close to 100 years old, which awakened the interest of the pension department to meet the long-lived man, and the second and lapidary mistake, to have confessed what happened to Chris' stepmother, who immediately informed the local police.

Susan y Chris fueron acusados de asesinar a Patricia y William Wycherley, los padres de Susan, y de enterrarlos en el jardín trasero de la casa de éstos, sosteniendo durante 15 años que los ancianos estaban de viajes, mientras ellos recibían y vivían de las pensiones de ambos. Dos “errores” los llevaron a ser objeto de investigación hasta condenarlos; primero, seguir cobrando la pensión cuando ya uno de los ancianos estaba próximo a cumplir 100 años, lo que despertó el interés en el departamento de pensiones por conocer al longevo hombre, y el segundo y lapidario error, haber confesado lo ocurrido a la madrastra de Chris, quien de inmediato dio aviso a la policía local.

They say that money does not bring happiness, the Edwards had access to all the Wycherley's money and squandered it on banalities, acquiring debts that drove them to despair and led them to make mistakes that exposed them to the British authorities.

The above is basically the story that the series tells, but the charm lies in the brilliant performance of Olivia Colman and David Thewlis, impeccable and masterful, their staging gives life to an emotionally and affectively codependent couple, with obvious psychological traumas that convince them to be the good guys of the story, although their actions weave a web of lies that condemn them. Edwards' story is marked by lies, betrayal, ambition, and undoubtedly, death.

Lo anterior es básicamente la historia que narra la serie, pero el encanto está en la brillante actuación de Olivia Colman y David Thewlis, impecable y magistral, su puesta en escena da vida a una pareja codependiente emocional y afectivamente, con evidentes traumas psicológicos que los convencen de ser los buenos de la historia, aunque sus acciones entretejan una red de mentiras que los condenan. La historia de los Edwards está signada por la mentira, la traición, la ambición, y sin duda, la muerte.

Something I loved about this miniseries, and whose credit goes to its director Will Sharpe, is the approach with which he denotes the psychological disorder of the couple and is reflected on screen through the focus of the cameras, the shades in the scenes, the music, the fantasy recreation of the memory of the protagonists ... risky but fascinating management between imagination and reality. I was truly delighted because a criminal story that could have been frivolous, ended up having so many human aspects that make it attractive to the viewer.

Algo que amé de esta miniserie, y cuyo crédito queda en su director Will Sharpe, es el enfoque con que el que denota el desorden psicológico de la pareja, y queda reflejado en pantalla a través del enfoque de las cámaras, de los tonos en las escenas, de la música, de la recreación fantasiosa de la memoria de los protagonistas… un manejo arriesgado pero fascinante entre la imaginación y la realidad. De verdad quedé encantada porque una historia criminal que pudo haber sido frívola, terminó teniendo tantas aristas humanas, que la hacen atractiva al espectador.

The acting and technical work of this miniseries transformed one more crime story into a work of art worth enjoying. I am a lover of this genre, I have seen many movies/series of this type, maybe that's why I appreciate the way they dared to show this story, I think it has been a great success from the narrative to the staging as such.

El trabajo actoral y técnico de esta miniserie, transformaron una historia criminal más, en una obra de arte digna de disfrutar. Yo soy amante de este género, he visto muchas películas/series de este tipo, tal vez por eso aprecio la manera en que se atrevieron a mostrar esta historia, creo que ha sido un gran acierto desde la narrativa hasta la puesta en escena como tal.

As I mentioned to you, Landscapers is narrated in 4 chapters that run in a total of 4 hours, time to delight in this pair of British actors in an audiovisual work without waste, judging by an event that shocked the UK in 2013 when Susan and Chris Edwards were found guilty of the patricide of the Wycherley's.

Como les mencioné, Landscapers está narrada en 4 capítulos que transcurren en un total de 4 horas, tiempo para deleitarse con este par de actores británicos en una obra audiovisual sin desperdicios, a juzgar por un hecho que conmocionó al Reino Unido en 2013 cuando Susan y Chris Edwards fueron declarados culpables del parricidio de los Wycherley.

This series is available on HBOMax, one more reason to be happy that I made the decision to sign up for this streaming service that so far I find super cool.
