Back to Basics

In this game, often complicated by various rulesets, Back to Basics stands out for its simplicity. The key to success lies in a straightforward strategy: assemble a frontline of low-cost monsters boasting high HP stats, complemented by magic strikers positioned behind them. Ideally, these magic strikers should benefit from Obsidian’s +1 magic attack buff. The ruleset weakens melee monsters by stripping them of special abilities, while ranged monsters are limited in the first position. Magic strikers, on the other hand, bypass armor stats and are not limited by anti-magic abilities.

While newer summoners like Avina of the Wolf may find a place in a Back to Basics lineup, I played it safe and stuck with Obsidian for this encounter.

Mycelic Morphoid was rather a cannon fodder than a tank, intended to slow down my opponent’s strikers.

Chaos Agent played a similar role, serving as expendable support.

Now, onto the crucial cards: Mycelic Slipspawn, typically eliminated early due to its Taunt, found utility under Back to Basics, proving capable of inflicting significant damage.

Regal Peryton emerges as a star against physical opponents, utilizing its speed and flying abilities to evade numerous assaults. In this match, its cost/benefit ratio proved highly favorable.

Blackmoor Nymph, while not a standout monster, filled the gap with an extra three mana points, offering an additional magic striker.

The Battle

Both my cannon fodder monsters were swiftly eliminated in the opening round, mirroring my opponent's losses. From that point onward, the battle unfolded as a straightforward calculation of total HP and cumulative damage per round. Fortunately, the numbers favored me, with my strikers excelling in both categories. Their superior speed, though less important for magic attacks, still conferred an advantage. In summary, I clinched victory with two monsters unscathed.

The best thing is that whenever such special changes are made within the games, people's interest increases a lot and then many new users like the game.
