Bad Encounter With A Bad Cop.

The slogan Police is your friend is not meant for every country and in a place like Nigeria, the relationship between the police and the citizens has gone from bad to worse. I remembered a particular time when the other forces requested that the Force in the "Nigeria Police Force" be removed. I didn't blame them for proposing such because the police at a point became a dent to other Forces.

Doing the opposite of their reason for existence has caused great pain in the life of many families, how do we explain that the people who are meant to protect lives and properties are the ones harming the same lives and properties? It is sad to say that the corruption in the police has been left untackled and has made the bad eggs outnumber the effort of the good ones. I have met quite a few

For the other Forces in the country, I always admired them and that was why I tried joining about 14 years ago. I wrote the Nigeria Defense Academy exam thrice and had to give up since I didn't have the right connection to go through. Going into the Force as a recruit wasn't an option so I had to let go of the dream.

I have had several encounters against the police for different unreasonable reasons and they all reflect their incompetence.

I have been challenged as an internet fraudster and had to play by their rules because of how they have wasted the lives of youths for crimes they didn't commit. There were a lot of them and being stubborn might put my life in great danger so I did everything they requested and after proving my innocence, I was allowed to go.

I was arrested as a teenager after being falsely accused of abducting a girl of my age and due to the intervention of a family member in the force, I was released on bail and month after, we discovered that the girl ran away from home due to being maltreated by her mother. The funniest of them was when I was living in one of the Lagos ghettos.

I was new to the environment and while I was doing my thing in the toilet, they kicked the toilet door open because a suspect ran into the compound where I live.

All these experiences didn't mean much to me probably because they weren't life threatening. One experience that got me really mad happened about two years ago.

I went to an area in Ikorodu with my fiancee and on our way back, we boarded a bike.

The rider left the park and as we were entering the main road, a policeman dragged the bike from behind and because the bike wasn't moving fast, we fell.

I could feel sparks in my head immediately after we hit the ground, I didn't feel any pain at that moment, and seeing who dragged the bike was all I cared about.

My anger worsened knowing it was a police officer and I rush to him immediately. He held his gun tightly but it didn't scare me because I was really mad. I am the type that barely gets angry but whenever I do, it really doesn't end well.

The policeman took a few steps backwards and people were on standby to see what would happen next.

"Why did you pull the bike?", I yelled at him and he replied, " I no get business with you".

The response pissed me off and he wanted to leave but I pulled him back. He threatened to shoot and I dared him to do so.

I made him realize that he was only depending on the gun and dared him to drop the gun so we can fight man to man.

My fiancee was in tears already because it was the first time she was seeing me in such a state.

I didn't know a police station was nearby and before I knew it, more police officers gathered.

They began asking themselves who I am? With that level of confidence I had, they thought that I probably knew someone so they didn't approach me rashly.

One of the officers who had sense among them told me to leave the officer's hand which I did. We narrated the whole issue and he faulted his colleague for doing such a thing.

His excuse was that bikes don't take two passengers at the same time and I made it clear that I was a stranger. I don't know the rules and the bike man didn't say anything.

I made it clear that regardless of what the law says, people lives shouldn't be at risk while they are executing their duties.

While we were settling things, another officer was already taking the bike away. I intervened again and other bike men started getting involved as well.

The bike man was allowed to go while we went our way as well. The reasonable officer I spoke to even instructed a bike to take me and my fiancee at once.

I thought about it when I got home and honestly, it was a dangerous stunt. A lot of people have lost their lives by just arguing with a police officer but I was glad that for once, I was able to challenge an officer for doing the wrong thing.

If I had made it into the military back then, I would have personally hunted for corrupt police and exposed them to the world probably it will make them do their work diligently.

Hehehe. That was a dangerous stunt you pulled out that day but God saved you because there are some crazy officers who do not care with what happened, they will shoot. He was at fault truly with the whole explanation and thank God a wise one came by to judge the whole situation.

Honestly, it was God and I have never been so pissed in my life. We were close to a T junction and if a vehicle was speeding in our direction, it would have been a great problem that day.

Thank God it didn't turn to something else that day. Some policemen are not humane.

There are a lot of inhumane ones among them, they don't care about the life of others.

Omo... Tom Cruise!
Wow... That was really dangerous ooo. Please don't let your anger take control next time o! All it takes is one shot, and they can chuck it up as they were acting in self defense.
But then, it was your boldness that made them step back and actually listen to you, if not things could have gone awry as well.
So is what you did good or bad?
I don't know.
After all, all of us don craze finish for this country.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Tom Cruise indeed, could have damaged our legs badly from the fall if not that the bike man hasn't sped yet.

I will never try such a thing if not for my life being threatened. It's not my first encounter but that specific one made me angry.

The rate at which police officers misused power on people is getting out of hands and at the end they will still claim right

I just wish there is something that can change that part where officer will overpower people for no reason

Those guys are something else, they have turned their duties around and they are only after their purse now.

We forget almost everything when we became angry but it brings danger most of time. So we should try to control it as much as we can. It's good that the matter ended there.

Putting our anger in check is really an important thing to do else we will wreck havoc before we realise that we are doing the wrong thing.
