You are not essential

(A kind of letter to myself).

Did you know that you are not indispensable in either the real or the virtual world? Are you aware that if you die, family, friends and social media followers will miss you for a few days, but then they will go on with their lives without you? In fact, everything will go on as normal. Your absence will be felt, no doubt, but nothing will stop. The earth will keep spinning, the universe will keep expanding and everyone's life will keep going on.

The same applies to social networks. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Hive, Reddit and the Internet in general will continue to function without you. Your presence on them is important, your content may contribute something to others, but if one day you die, that's it. It's over for you, but that network will not close, not even if you are the content creator with the most followers or the one who contributes the most money to that platform.

No, you are not indispensable, profitable and useful? Yes, maybe, but you are not so indispensable, sooner or later someone else will replace you and will do things the same or better than you. Whether you are the creator, advertiser, programmer, even if you are the owner, it will be maintained without your presence. Your followers will miss your posts, the "lives" you make or your replying to comments, but otherwise, everything will go on as normal.

Now, let's talk about you as a consumer of content, products, services, porn videos and oxygen. Sometimes you feel like if you don't go on Twitter to find out the news your life is incomplete. As if not knowing the price of the dollar, which soccer teams won the last Premier League matchday or Elon Musk's latest nonsense will make your existence meaningless. You can't conceive that things happen and you don't know about it.

No, you don't need to know everything about everything and everyone. Let go of the hunger and anxiety to learn about the latest news or the most recent post published by your favorite content creator. Just as you are not indispensable to your followers, neither is the content of your followers indispensable to you. Important and useful? Yes, maybe, but nothing more.

So stop wasting time and focus on what really matters. Stop and reflect before randomly going to open your browser or that social network you're addicted to. No, it's not essential for you, just as you are not essential for them or for the real world.

I wrote these words for myself, maybe for you they will make some sense. Thank you for reading me.

This make total sense. This is the sad truth that many fail to realize.

Life goes on with or without you so why not live your life to the fullest? Why try to live your live according to other people's steroetypes?

For sure this is a good one. People have grown so accustomed to the way it is with social media these days to think that in the grand scheme of things, we aren’t that important to many people besides our closest family. It would be tough to leave this plane of existence early but things keep going because we have to, sad as that is. We can’t stop our lives because someone else’s ended and that’s just a fact.

We also need to apply this same mantra at the workplace. We need to understand that workplaces, unless you own it, will replace you as soon as physically possible. This means if you can, enjoy your life more and work will be there but it shouldn’t be every waking moment of our lives.
