The most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me occurred in a crowded coffee shop. I was there with the confidence of someone who's ordered a latte a thousand times. But that day, my mouth and my brain decided to go their separate ways. When the barista, a girl with a friendly smile, asked me, "Anything else?", I wanted to say, "No, thank you." However, what came out was a resounding, loud, "Yes, kiss me!"

The silence was absolute. Not an awkward silence, but one of those heavy, audible silences. The barista froze, the coffee steaming in her hand, her eyes widening. Behind me, the entire line had heard. I felt a heat rise from my neck to the roots of my hair, a fever of pure embarrassment. I stammered, trying to explain that it had been a mistake, that I meant to say thank you, but my voice became an unintelligible babble.
