BLUE JAY DRAWING ON BLACK PAPER EITH COLORED PENCILS [ENG-ESP]

Hello friends, I hope you are very well, this time I have drawn a bird, although it is not native to my country, it is a bird that I have always liked since it appeared as a logo for the Toronto baseball team. It is a Blue Jay, a very beautiful gray and blue bird, with its forelock it is similar to a cardinal. I have made this drawing on black cardboard, since an almost photographic effect is achieved. Hola amigos, espero que se encuentren muy bien, en esta oportunidad he dibujado un ave, aunque no es oriunda de mi país, es un ave que siempre me ha gustado ya que salía como logo en el equipo de beisbol de Toronto. Se trata de un Blue Jay, un ave de un tono gris con azul muy hermosa, con su copete es semejante a un cardenal. He realizado este dibujo sobre cartulina negra, ya que se logra un efecto casi fotográfico. Espero que les guste.

I made the sketch with a white wax pencil, although I used that to avoid erasing but to reinforce it later with other colors. I started with the beak, then the head and so on until the middle of the body, I did not paint it completely so that the drawing would come out as a portrait.

Hice el boceto con un lápiz blanco de cera, aunque usé ese para no borrar sino para reforzar luego con otros colores. Comencé por el pico, luego la cabeza y así hasta la mitad del cuerpo, no lo pinte completo para que el dibujo saliera como un retrato.

As a starting point I chose the eye, since it is in the center of the drawing and gives me a more global perspective of the illustration. So I started by painting the iris of the eye with a light brown color and darkening the edges with black, at the end I made the light reflection with white charcoal, the best pencil to do these light effects.

Como punto de partida escogí el ojo, ya que se encuentra en el centro del dibujo y me da una perspectiva mas global de la ilustración. Así que comencé pintando el iris del ojo con color café claro y oscureciendo los bordes con color negro, al final hice el reflejo de luz con carboncillo blanco, el mejor lápiz para hacer estos efectos de luz.

I begin to paint the plumage using 3 different types of blue, a light one similar to the sky, another navy blue and a turquoise blue, with the combination of these 3 tones I draw all the feathers on the head. For the white plumage I use the same white wax color with the difference of the white charcoal that I use this time to give more intensity to those wings that are illuminated.

Comienzo a pintar el plumaje utilizando 3 tipos diferentes de color azul, uno claro semejante al cielo, otro azul de color marino y un azul turquesa, con la combinación de estos 3 tonos dibujo todas las plumas de la cabeza. Para el plumaje blanco utilizo el mismo color blanco de cera con la diferencia del carboncillo blanco que lo utilizo esta vez para darle más intensidad a aquellas alas que se encuentren iluminadas.

With the white color of wax I begin to paint all the plumage of the face and a little of the chest. On the beak of the bird I make a mix between blue and white to give it that shiny effect on the beak, and below thin lines of black, using quick strokes since in this area it has feathers similar to a cat's whiskers.

Con el color blanco de cera comienzo a pintar todo el plumaje del rostro y un poco el del pecho. En el pico del ave hago una mezcla entre color azul y blanco para darle ese efecto de brillo sobre el pico, y debajo delgadas líneas de color negro, usando trazos rápidos ya que en esta zona posee plumas semejantes a los bigotes de un gato.

At the end of the entire head of the bird, continue with the lower part, that is, the chest and the right wing. Contrary to the previous step, here I used white charcoal for the rest of the feathers, I wanted to place that contrast where the depth of the stroke could be seen and thus achieve the effect of the plumage one on top of the other. For the right wing I used the same colors as the face, and I ended up using black where necessary, such as highlighting the shadows of the feathers when they are on top of each other, in this way the drawing was finished.

Al finalizar con toda la cabeza del pájaro continue con la parte de abajo, es decir el pecho y el ala derecha. Al contrario del paso anterior aquí utilicé el carboncillo blanco para el resto de las plumas, queria lugrar ese contraste donde las pudiera verse la profundidad del trazo y así lograr el efeto del plumaje uno encima del otro. Para el ala derecha usé los mismos colores del rostro, y finalicé utilizando el color negro donde fuera necesario, como por ejemplo resaltar las sobras de las plumas cuando estan unas encimas de otras, de esta manera quedó finalizado el dibujo.

You can see that the photographic effect is better when a dark background is used, my favorites are black, gray and also dark brown, before I used to use the latter but it was difficult for me to get that kind of paper, but black paper has complimented in a better way and all the colors look great. Pueden ver que el efecto fotográfico queda mejor cuando se usa un fondo oscuro, mis preferidos son el negro, el gris y también el café oscuro, antes solía usar este último pero se me hizo dificil conseguir esa clase de papel, pero el papel negro ha cumplido de una mejor manera y todos los colores se ven muy bien.
