The devil's visit

Today was a funny day... I was sitting by the stove when I hear a car park next to the house with cumbia music (popular neighborhood music in South America) at full volume. In this situation you can expect very friendly people or total gangsters.

I heard steps approaching the house and feeling a bit scared and nervous I went out to confront whoever was coming, in case they had any bad intentions. As I walked out the door I was met face to face with a guy who looked startled, which he was as he said he was sorry, that he didn't think anyone lived here and that he just wanted to take a leak

I put my tension under control and removed the idea that he was dangerous from my mind, and told him it was ok. We shook hands firmly and he went to do his business. After a while he called out to me and we begin talking. Turns out he was a friendly gangster. He invited me to go to his car for a beer but I rejected him because I no longer care for building social relations based on alcohol. He insisted so I said I would take some yerba mate to drink with him but before I had it ready he was back with the beer.

I rejected him again, and convinced him that we should drink mate. I explained to him that I was tense at first because people sometimes come here with bad intentions, such as throwing trash or stealing. He asked me what I had to defend myself with and I said just my axe and machete. He offered he could get me a gun which I wouldn't mind having but his price was off my budget.

Then he told me he was a drug dealer, particularly dealing cocaine, which is my least favorite drug. As he kept talking I started understanding it was the devil visiting me. Yes, he was friendly but here's the thing: he started offering me work at his father's fields, that it was good pay and he could give me some of his drug to perform well and easy. I know how that story goes. You have a blast working with the drug on your body and then you get hooked, so you end up spending all the earnings on the drug to keep going. I know it cause I've been there.

I stayed silent for a while, analyzing what was going on. It was a bit tempting as sometimes I do crave for money and more excitement in my life.

Nah, I've come a long way in this journey towards Nature, to free myself from the chains of self-destructive patterns, if I'm going to get rewarded with sensual pleasures, it's going to be slow and easy, not selling myself out for a quick taste of glory. I'm not a saint and I don't intend to be one, but I'm not a sellout either, I'll hold on to my integrity, thank you very much.

There was another problem in line though: my pleaser attitude that has a hard time letting anyone down. It wanted to say yes, because it's so annoyingly agreeable. But I was able to remain silent enough to listen to it's yapping and tell it that it wasn't getting it's way. Finally, I told him I didn't want any of what he was offering and that he was welcome to come and share calm contemplation of Nature and the self if he ever wanted to do so. He seemed to leave very happy and said he was grateful.

Guess the devil isn't our enemy after all, it just wants to see if we're for real or just full of shit.

Now, if you want to tempt me, you're gonna have to send a blazing hot girl to seduce me, that's the only way I forget about virtue 😈🔥😋... For a while, just for a while.
