Chapter XXVIII Banana Chaser

Beeper

John, with the responsibilities that he had acquired by his position in the bank, required him to use a beeper with high security protocols to send, receive emails and handle short text messages with headquarters and subsidiaries.

After the disaster emergency plan was activated by the demand that the bank received from Thomas' heirs, he had been using it intensively. For the scientific police, this was one of the stumbling blocks of the investigation that he could never solve, so it was never certain that John was involved in the suspicious operations carried out out of Thomas's fortune.

He realized that at some point the care of keeping communications with his most committed employees secret could fail, now he decided to use double encrypted communications that would cloud the relevant information.

It was always a dilemma for Peter to determine the truth of what John handled at the bank, even the police with all the advanced techniques at their disposal found it fruitless to discover the content of the communications he kept with trusted bank´ employees, a weakness of the network that he had woven was the reason that one of his trusted employees was apprehended and condemned, who always maintained an attitude of respect towards him since he never revealed the fact that more people were involved in the crimes for which he was sentenced.

The scientific police, however, was still looking for more evidence, it had been able to intercept the bank's internal communications, this had been achieved thanks to the cooperation of the telecommunications company to which the bank was subscribed, only that they they used the services of another operator to encrypt the transmitted data. Upon learning of this, Peter began to investigate on his own what the solution to the problem would be, the days passed and despite his efforts he did not achieve the solution. Being Mindy's lawyer, he was interested that his sister Angeline had come to meet her to help her claim the inheritance, as she did not come alone but accompanied by Andrew, a somewhat introverted character that until now he intuits that he has rather hindered the development of events, since he is always making observations unrelated to the ends that Thomas' heirs pursue.

Peter that morning going to a store to buy some groceries for his house, surprisingly he match Andrew who was there to buy supplies for Mindy and Angeline. Taking advantage of the fact that both are on neutral ground, Andrew tells Peter the true reason for accompanying Tomas' daughters, Peter listens to him taking care in his words, finally evaluating that the man in front of him spoke with sincerity. So he risked commenting on the difficulty that the police was presenting regarding the encrypted communications made by John to communicate with his trusted employees.

Andrew, knowing first-hand everything related to encryption codes, spoke to Peter saying:

"For me this will not be too difficult, we must go to the police, I think it will be a piece of cake"

From there they immediately went to the police, one of the agents received them and showed Andrew a list of disordered and meaningless words, now he began to detail them while he was putting annotations on a sheet of paper, after half an hour of work, he gave them the good news that he had managed to decrypt the information, he only had to use a "bridge" program to translate the data to express it in an understandable format, in addition, he could make the adaptation without receiving no type of fees, so from now on it will not be any problem to know at all times the information that John is trying to hide.

Upon leaving the police, Peter tells Andrew that for the benefit of the investigation he has to keep the secret since none of Thomas's heirs should have known it, until the scientific police discover if there is evidence accusing John of crime or to be released from suspicion. Therefore, Andrew gives him, his word as a gentleman, that will be done as expressed by the lawyer.

Thomas's assets

Thomas Jr., after freeing himself from his work commitments, went to the villa rented by his sisters to discuss the part of the inheritance that corresponded to each one, upon arriving there after greeting each other affectionately Andrew who was present retired to their room, now the brothers alone united by the memory of the sailor Thomas, began to talk animatedly about everything that their father had left them. Thomas Jr, still had no knowledge of how Mindy had reached the island where he had lived all his life, unaware of the whereabouts of his adventurous father and unaware that he would have news of him over the years. Mindy then began to detail to her brother:

"I was not aware of such an inheritance either, but thanks to the persistence of our sister Angeline, who at Dad's insistence came to look for him, only that he had already passed away, but since she knew we were sisters she told me, Angeline was not aware of such an inheritance, but when we began to establish a friendship, first superficially and then deeper, it was that she took us to review my father's belongings at home. There, among his things, a personal diary and a box with old coins, we try to extract the information and the stories reflected, without being able to decipher their meaning. It is when Angeline introduces me to Andrew, who as a graphologist discovered all the necessary data and is the reason why we are gathered here "

Thomas Jr., pleased with that first part of the explanation, asked him to continue telling him how they had found the whereabouts of the bank in which Thomas's assets rested, so Angeline, eager to intervene, continued telling them:

"There in the personal diary, we located a document that certified that our father had a safe deposit box contract in one of the central bank of the city, so in the company of Andrew and Mindy we spoke with the manager who facilitated access to the belongings of dad who had left them safe there, having them, we demanded that he deliver them to us and take them to Mindy's house. After a few days the three of us verified their content, which was what gave us the information that Thomas had significant investments in the island where we are now, since being a tax haven, land of former pirates, it was easier for him to protect his heritage, since also being a sailor, he could suffer extortion from third parties, that after a few years he could never return to review the status of his investments "

After listening to the explanation of his two sisters, he asked them:

"If everything went as they say, what did my father do to authorize them to withdraw their assets from the bank?"

Mindy, ready for the question, immediately answers:

"In that safe deposit box was an authorization from him so that we, his daughters, could withdraw his assets. There, he did not leave anything written regarding his son, who is you. if you were alive or that you still lived. Also when he made the document before a notary, he was very old "

Surprised, Thomas Jr. of the care his father had taken for his fortune, put his trust in his daughters and relegated him to a non-existent level.

Angeline realizing her change of heart, expressed to him:

"Brother, you must forgive our father, for him life was very hard and complicated, thank God that He has brought us together and is straightening the crooked paths he traveled"

With these last words and with their spirits slightly altered, they decided that they should have dinner and leave the discussion of all the details of the fortune they would receive for another time.

Cold dungeon

At the bank now John, was dedicated to reviewing in detail the fortune of Thomas, considered his work as that of a banana chaser, who in a rain forest searches every corner to find the fruits.

One by one, he identified the assets that Thomas had consigned there, the responsibility acquired by the bank and their current market value. Being a business man, knowing that some of these assets were leased and invested by the bank assigned to people who were paying for them juicy mortgages, it was impossible for the bank's administration to dispose of those assets and deliver them to Thomas's heirs.

For this reason, in communication with the other branches of the bank and its corporate partners, it began to design a protocol to put most of them up for auction. Something he thought was helping him to have fast and fluid communication was represented by the communications system that the bank had contracted.

In the police, attentive to John's communications, they kept an iron track of all his movements, Andrew had installed software that worked like a charm and was giving them the clues of everything he did there.

With enough evidence in hand, most of whom spoke against John and his performance in the bank's administration, they decided to report it to the judge who diligently issued an order to arrest him and make the necessary inquiries.

The police with the arrest warrant, arrived at John's office, he was surprised since he did not understand the reason for that visit, much less the fact that he was being detained. With his head held high, the other bank employees began to applaud him, everyone knew that he was a good man and that his actions had always been correct.

Upon arriving at the police headquarters, a cold dungeon awaited him there in which he would sleep that night, waiting for the police star investigator who would be there the next day. For his part, Peter, in the knowledge of what happened with John's arrest, hoped that his suspicions would be denied by the investigation and that it could be achieved that in a short time the fortune to the sailor's children would be given to them.

When appearing the next day, John with a gaunt face from having slept in the discomfort of the cell, his ideas were somewhat confusing, he did not think that this was one of the strategies used by the police to break his morale without applying torture. One of the policemen early in the morning approached him to the cell and offered him a cup of black coffee and asked him if he wanted to eat something, John, who had absolutely no dinner that night, was hungry, so he accepted his offer, when he brought him a bread with cheese, he consumed it immediately. Once he finished breakfast, the police opened the cell doors for him, directing him to the confession room where the star investigator was already. There the walls had no decorations, one of them with a mirror reflected the light of the lamp that hung from the ceiling.

The investigator already had prepared the questionnaire of questions with which that moment would represent a first confrontation with the accused, if he passed the test he would be released immediately, although he would always remain suspicious of his actions.

Kindly began with a list of events in which the investigator described some of the details of the operations that the bank was carrying out, John feeling unarmed, he had no other choice but to speak about all the operations that the bank carried out and his reason.

After all the pending issues were covered, he got up from his seat and told John that he would be released for the time being and that the investigation would continue based on all the data he gave in the interview.

Relieved by the bad drink he had been through, he went to collect his belongings and called his bank driver to pick him up with his limo.
