Greetings to my esteemed friends on the Deep Dives platform and the entire hive blockchain. It's another day and time to share with you news about human right abuses of some Uighur refugees in Thailand. I'll be writing on the event as well as my views about such crimes against humanity. It's your friend @faquan, saying hello from this part of the world.

It's been nine years since a group of Uighur refugees fleeing from the Chinese government were arrested and detained by the Thailand government and were jailed for illegal migration into the Thai territory.

About 350 Uighur refugees, including children were detained by the Thai government. This is a violation of the human rights of these Uighur refugees. Detaining minors on its own is a crime against humanity and keeping them for nine years is absolutely worrisome because of the situation and the experience they've had in prison.

Most of them have been exposed to several harsh conditions and have contracted different diseases in the cell leading to the death of many.

Mattohti who died last Friday as a result of the illness he contracted in prison was one of the two Uighur refugees that have died this year after being detained for nine years.

World Uyghur Congress President Dolkun Isa said that the health hazards in the prison could lead to the death of the remaining Uighur refugees if nothing is done to rescue them from detention. This should be the concern of the international community and other human right activists across the world.

Violating immigration laws isn't an excuse to the Thai government, once an individual or group of individuals illegally enters Thai territory, they're charged for violating immigration laws and were punished whether they sort for asylum or not.

Like many countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand is not a party to the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, leaving asylum seekers vulnerable to arrest and detention as “illegal migrants“.

The Uighur groups’ said Mattohti was sent to hospital last Friday after weeks of severe stomach pain and vomiting as well as developing jaundice. He died shortly after he was admitted.

Thailand has yet to officially confirm his death.

In February, 49-year-old Aziz Abdullah died of pneumonia after also spending nine years in detention.

“Thai authorities are putting people at risk by keeping them for years in awful conditions in immigration detention centers,” Human Rights Watch’s Asia Director Elaine Pearson said in a statement.

“Mattohti Mattursun’s death should sound the alarm to end this abusive policy of incarcerating asylum seekers and refugees for prolonged periods.”
