Tulips galore - lost spring garden journal

Saturday, 8th of July 2023 [78]

I must admit my #hivegarden has been greatly neglected this year. Even my posts about the garden have been few and far between.

I take pictures, lots of pictures, but then they just reside in my phone camera, never enjoying the spotlight of hive post and the admiration of other garden lovers.

That’s basically what happened to my beautiful tulips this year. Even though I didn’t plant many new ones last fall, the collective amount of new ones and old ones put up quite a show this year. Hence why rather than a usual #gardenjournal I’ll show you a missed journal from spring this year.

Those two-tone cuties must be my favourites of the new additions. In Poland the most commonly seen tulips back when I was growing up there were single coloured ones. Mainly red and yellow.

I guess that’s why I developed a taste for all the unusual types of tulips. The spiky ones, bicoloured ones and those with thrilled edges.

Or even better - a combination of all! Like a parrot! I guess that’s why they call them parrot tulips 😉

Red and orang two coloured types are probably around 3 years old now. Most of those have been planted directly in the ground. They tend to do better and multiply faster than those planted in pots.

I also have pure yellow variety of those. They must be 8+ years old now and they never ever disappoint.

They always put up a good show and there seems to be more of them each year. Some I dug up and planted elsewhere and the following year more came out in both locations. Here you can see them in new location with the old location in the background.

My self seeded ‘Forget me not’s also come up at the same time as those yellow tulips, making a beautiful, blue background to those bright yellows

Other, new yellows I planted last year look a little bit quirky.

Interesting, but not exactly my top choice. The only reason they foubd its way into my garden is the fact that they were a part of a bigger pack that I found on offer late in the season. I’m not sure, maybe they looked better later on, maybe they opened more, but if they did, I must have missed that.

The name of the new additions must be gentle. At least that’s how I would name this collection if I was naming it.

Mainly whites and creamy whites with a gentle touch of purple and pink and pure purples to finish the show.

The whites were increadibly pleasant to the eye. Usually I go for more striking colours, but these were just right for this year.

Last years parrots made a nice contrasting backgroud to them.

What I really love about the tulips is the huge variety of them and different blooming times that come with different varieties. While some are already blooming proudly, others are just prepering to open up.

As a result, I have a beautiful tulips display throughout the spring.

It’s actually great looking at those pictures now, cause after the blooming period is over I can’t even remember where were they all planted.

When fall comes, especially when I buy some new bulbs on last minute sale, I run around front and back garden like a crazy women, plugging those bulbs wherever there is a gap… pot, egde, rised beds.

In pots, I often manage to make a pretty arrangements, while those in ground are a mixed bunch of randomness.

Still, these are all colours of nature. Unlike clothes that may not always go well one with another, in nature nothing ever clashes. All is in perfect harmony.

Last, but not least, I also found some tulips during my spring walks. Those here are some of my favourite types - bicolured and thrilled. I love them.

Wow absolutely beautiful tulips at your place. It reminds me of my time at the garden in Keukenhof - where I saw hundreds of varieties. I noticed that you have some of them here. I do not know if you have seen the 2 posts I made of the gardens. I am certain after seeing this post that you will thoroughly enjoy them.

Lovely photos

Wow you had adorable flowers in your garden. I love the yellow one. Few days back my mom was also asking me to brought some yellow flowers because it is considered as the sign of prosperity.

Oh wow! I never knew this about yellow. I know it’s considered an optimistic colour too. Maybe that’s why I crave to have yellow flowers 🌸 in my garden 😍
