Helicopter in Acrylic Paints

(Edited)

Last week, I again missed the #creative-sunday. However, I assure you it wasn't intentional. I spent the whole Sunday painting something. It was my first-time painting on a bigger canvas. I didn't realize that it could take so much of my time. I couldn't complete it that day.

Next day, I again worked on it and finally it was completed. But there was something off about it which I couldn't point out. Therefore, I was reluctant to post it and kind of skipped the idea of publishing it at all.

I was a little disappointed in myself because I did push my limits in that piece. I painted things which I had no idea about how they were done. For instance, lighting and motion effect.

Week passed and today again I took out that painting and decided to work on it with a fresh mind. I did some tweaking and came to a point that it might have looked better in Oil, whereas I used Acrylics.

Anyways, that's how we learn, with practice and mistakes.

Okay coming to the subject of painting...

After my few successful attempts, my husband got a little impressed and asked me to make a painting for his office.

I was like, why not, I can do it. 😀

I did it but after seeing the outcome, I told him that I won't mind if he doesn't hang it in his office. I also told him to not tell anyone about the artist unless somebody gives a genuine compliment (rare chance). 🤣

Painting Scene:

Military Helicopter getting ready for takeoff at nighttime.

I sketched the helicopter which was easier than expected.

The one thing that I didn't enjoy at all was painting the big sky and runway.

I had to spend some time to mix colors and get the right shade for military green and yellow.

The most daunting task for me was to create runway and taxi lights and helicopter lights.

I saw some tutorials, but I failed to create the lights. I had to practice for another on a rough sheet and only when I got it right then I painted on the canvas. I pretty much like how the lights came out.

Then there was spinning tail and main rotors. It looked difficult but I was able to do it easily.

Everything looked so pitch black, so I created some bushes and added some lights to give a little more life to the scene.

Handing it over to husband now for his office. I will pay him a visit soon and will bring it back home if it looks hideous there. 🤪

All images are mine unless otherwise stated.

I must say Congratulations on your awesome painting, I can see a great artist here. I make use of Canva for my graphic designs and I love the application, it's easy to use and very nice.

I wish you good luck on your painting journey and I hope to learn from you

Good to know that. Canva is for graphic designs. What I do is traditional art, paints and solid canvas.

You didn't post last week and it's completely fine if you didn't, what really matters is that you pushed your limits to take another step in this artistic journey of yours. I have been following your artwork since the very start. Sometimes I comment on them and sometimes I forget but trust me I have read all of your pieces and the growth is quite evident and I swear it has motivated me a lot as well

Coming to this artwork, it is amazing. I'm really interested in knowing how did you add that kind of brightness to the light and also want to ask why didn't you add this brightness on the yellow color as well. Nonetheless it is perfectttt

I am pleased to know that you follow my artwork, not that it's special, it's pretty average and sometimes below that. Like I said and you agreed, what matters is that I tried to push my limits.

I used only two colors for light, White and Orange Yellow. First I created a small white circle and let it dry. After that I took a small flat brush and make straight white lines going out of the white circle to make light beams. Then I took yellow orange color and smudged it around the white circle and make same beams over the white beams.

I am not sure if you understand it with this explanation. I was so engrossed in lights that I forgot to take pictures of that particular stage. I will try to re-create lights and take pictures for you if you are interested.

why didn't you add this brightness on the yellow color as well

I didn't understand this. Where and which yellow color you are talking about?

This one. The body of the helicopter. I think brightened yellow would have more charm, no?

Hello, @event-horizon. You are talented and your painting is beautiful. Well done!

I'm from DreemPort and want to thank you for submitting today. I'm in the process of screening your post but noticed your images are not sourced. Can you write it somehow on the post, may be at the end, "Images are mine" or something similar? Thank you. 🙂

Wow! This is an incredible art design you did for your husband. I am sure he is gonna love it and won't even hide it in his office but would be happy hanging it where people will definitely see it clearly and give kudos to the artist behind it. So beautiful 🥳

I popped in through Dreemport 🤗

Haha. That's what he says. He wants to hang it in his office. It's me who's under confident. 😂

I never thought about how tough it was to paint a shining light or moving parts.
Good job.

It wasn't tough, you just have to know how to use colors to create different effects. It was my first time painting lights that's why I was scared. I know how to do it now and will get better with practice. 🙂
