GEOLOGY AS A PROFESSION

WELCOME TO MY BLOG
Good day my lovely people of hive learners community, I hope we are all good and happy weekend to us all

The most interesting topic is ongoing and I will love to share part of my course with us all and why I have passion for the course

I am a graduate of federal university Lokoja where I studied Geology as a course, Geology is one of the most interesting course you will never regret though some how stressful but very lovely

If you ask a layman what is geology, they will say geology is the study of rocks though it is true but geology is more than that,
Geology deals with nature and nature is a beautiful things we see around us

Geology studies the solid structure of the planet, which is the core, mantle and crust, the different layers of rock and it's formation, minerals contained in a rock, texture of rock and elasticity of rock with chemical and physical materials, and how they interact with each other. Geology also combines science with the history and ages of the earth, since geologist study the formation.

There are different branches of Geology

• Hydrogeology :- this is the study of surface and underground water, it deals with water
• Engineering geology :- this is the
  scientific analysis of rock, soil, groundwater and other conditions to put in place before construction. impact that major construction developments will have on sites.
• Economic geology :- it deals with mineral resources and how it can be useful to human e.g metallic and non metallic mineral resources
• Petrology :- it deals with the physical and chemical properties of rock and it's formation
• Geophysics:- it deals with the principle of physics applied to the study of the earth in which we learn about the core, mantle and crust
• Geochemistry:- this deals with the chemical study of rocks in which you know the minerals each rock constitute.

• Paleontology:- this is study of plant and animal fossil which has been into extinction
• Physical geology :- it deals with the study of rock, earthquake, volcanoes, plate tectonics, glacier,climate and so on
• Petroleum geology and so on

Geology is very interesting because we learn about everything that happens around us and how minerals resources can be of useful to man
Like example
Granite is gotten from
Igneous rock and it is used for construction.
Metallic minerals like iron, copper, bauxite, silver etc which most are used for electronics. Geology is life and a very sweet course to study and you will never regret it.

 WHERE CAN A GEOLOGIST WORK

• As a geologist, you can have you own Lab where you can carry out your analysis on any different types of rock and check for the durability of the rock.

• As a geologist you can work in an oil and gas company which will fetch alot of money for you

• As a geologist you can work in any construction company like bulletin, Julia Berger, Schlumberger etc

• As a geologist you can have you own quarry, where you breakdown rocks into smaller pieces and supply to people

• As a geologist you can have your own company like geophysical company where you carry out survey and and map out the area for borehole drilling. And so on
  I AM PROUD TO BE A CERTIFIED GEOLOGIST.
