Thoughts After Watching HiveFest And The Only Keyword You Need To Know

avatar

Lucky me, I watched the first day of HiveFest live, almost all of it. The second day, Saturday was busy for me all day as we had a family day and could only jump in a few times, but good thing we live in the 21st century, where technology is allowing us the unimaginable, so obviously I re watched all the presentations after the event.

After watching all the presentations at Hivefest I was trying to summarize what I've just seen and what that means to us, what it means to me. I need to mention that I have not been present at any of the events yet, so my experience is based on what I could see on the YouTube videos.

Without wanting it, I was thinking of the previous editions and could not neglect to notice how many apps, dapps are inactive today, as well as how many new things were presented this year in Amsterdam.

Each year thousands of us are watching these presentations, some live at the venue, others live on YouTube, waiting to see what's new, who is working on what and how those new developments are going to change Hive and our life with it.

I remember the previous fests, we were waiting to see what developers have to say, what new opportunities will be there for us, but the main point has always been Ned! I remember the last Steemfest, when Ned announced that delegations to projects will be reevaluated and some of them canceled and removed. Little did we know back then that he's going to sell us to the highest bidder, without any remorse or consideration for the community. Ned did not have the courage to be honest at Steemfest and share what he was planning. Little did he know what's going to happen. He knew nothing about the community, neither did he care about it.

If you've been here at least as long as me, you know that nothing lasts forever. We started on one blockchain, then moved to Hive. Is this the last one? Who knows? Dapps are coming and going, there are a few that are with us from the beginning but no one can guarantee things will stay the same way there are now. The truth is, we don't want that either as that would mean to halt development.

The only thing that is permanent is the community. Without the community, the blockchain is just a bunch of hardware and software, nothing more. We're here to stay but if things go south, we're ready to fork and start a new life, like we've done it before as freedom is of utmost importance in this business. The community is changing as well as some are inactive, while other have just been onboarded to our platform, but as per total, we're still here. Some of the drop outs we also see coming back and this happens from time to time, especially when Hive price starts to rally.

HiveFest Everywhere

HiveFest is organized on a yearly bases, however, there will always be impediments like financial or visa related problems, stopping people from participating. Paying $15k to get to the Fest may not be an option for many, but there's always an alternative.

Hive Meetup Argentina.jpg
Hive Meet Up in Argentina

Shortly after HiveFest, there was a meetup in Argentina organized by the Argentinian community. I suppose they could not attend HiveFest for the obvious reasons, but that did not stop them from organizing their own HiveFest. If you want to learn more about the event, you can do it by reading this post. This was their first meetup, but I bet it wasn't the last one as once good people with the same interest come together, there's a high chance to meet again.

It takes only a handful of people to start something. A handful of people who want to meet and from there, the whole thing can escalate, like an avalanche.

Some of these meetups are going on since the early days of Steemit and I see there are more and more meetings everywhere in the world.

What Does The Future Hold?

That's a good question and no one knows the answer for sure, but if you've been on Hive for a year or two at least, you kind of know that this is just the beginning in every sense of the word. Hive on its own is just two years old, but the community is way older, which makes it the base layer of the structure. Without the community we would not be here today, Hive would not exist. There would be the sh*tty Steemit as a blockchain (hardware and software) and that's all.

If you look at the STEEM/BTC 1M chart, this is what you see. If I were a doctor I would see a resuscitation attempt in 2017, then another one in 2018, both failed and then nothing, a straight line, which would raise the question if the family would want to take the patient off of life support, or keep hoping for a miracle that would never happen. (I had to pick the STEEM/BTC chart as the STEEM/USD pair is available on Binance only from April this year. Why? Don't ask me.)

When you go to a job interview you often are asked, where do you see yourself in 5 years. If someone would have asked me this question in 2018 when I joined, I have no idea what I would have answered honestly as my only goal was to practice my English, but for sure would have never dreamed to be where I am today.

After 5 years on the chain, I'm looking forward to the next 5 years. Where would we be in 5 years? On Hive of course, but the HIVE chart will look very different!

If I slap a Fib on the HIVE/USDT chart, you can see where we are right now and if you understand what .786 means, you know what to do 😇

This post is like a diary entry for me. I'm hoping to revisit this post in 2027 and see what has changed in the meantime (on both chains) 😏

Soooo, where do you see Hive and yourself in 5 years? Will you be here with me?

I really like your sentences. I don't know what to say. It has been very clear and bright, right?

...freedom is of utmost importance in this business.

This is what a lot of people are looking for, and as much as people are looking for it, they get what they want here.
Some come, some go, some come back after they leave. It's a law of nature, and who is selected? only those who are adaptive to change.

Btw, I don't know when I can attend just once to that cool meeting. (talking to myself)

which makes it the base layer of the structure.

Personally, I believe in this.

Definitely, business works with information that is generated in a more versatile, truthful, valuable way thanks to human connection, with the promise of giving greater inclusion to the diversity of talents (empowered people) connected to the world.

Standing ovations to each of the layers that make up the structure at Hive.☮️

We all contribute to building and making Hive to what it is. We just have to be consistent and be here. I'm here every single day and have no intention to change that.

Didn't know about Hivefest (until today), I'll watch the video on YouTube.

5 years from now? I hope I'm still here with the community growing bigger .

Then you've been living under the rock 🤔

For the second part of the answer, it's up to you if you'll be here, but I would not be elsewhere for sure.

Good things will come!
Some of my familymembers think I'm crazy, but I am very confident about the Hive future.

Good to hear that. It's hard to convince family members and people usually are afraid of everything new but you're on the right track and won't regret it, you'll see 😉

OMG @erikah, is this a proposal? I say yes, I'll be with you here.

That's my 5th month on the chain and I love being here. I've met with many super cool people here. I don't know when someone able to host a hive meet up in Turkey. But I'll be there. If hivefest will be in Turkey I'll be there. I don't know maybe one year later I can host hivefest in Turkey. Who knows?

5 months? You're still a rookie then 😂

Yes, there are so many super cool people here and that is why Hive is what it is today.

I'm not sure Turkey will be a HiveFest destination soon as the economical and political situation is a bit bumpy there but we'll know in 6 months where the next one will be held. Somewhere where visa is easily obtained, my guess. I hope it's going to be still in Europe.

I can participate hivefest only if it is in Turkey. The bumpy thing you mentioned only let me this. We will see, maybe a closer destination change my situation. Bulgaria or greece maybe.

I have been here since June 2017 but took a couple of years of hiatus. I was tired and fed up with the petty politics and bickering on Steemit. I came back sometime last year and liked what I saw. The communities are more structured, and so far no ugly politics, at least as far as I know. I hope to be here in 5 years to come 🙏.

Time will fly I am sure... This community is strong and will be stronger in upcoming years...

Wow. I didn't know there was such a celebration as this. It's good to know that this community is growing and evolving. I'm proud to be a part of this.

There's one every year. If not an actual meetup IRL then a virtual one.
