The Christmas Market

Last week on Friday I went to visit the craft market, in the hope of finding some Christmas products. These craft markets are organized every third Friday of the month and you find all kinds of products, starting from food to gifts. I like the place because I can buy products you don't find in the shops, the only downside is the price. Craft products are never cheap and you have to pay the price if you want something special.

I left home with high hopes and when i got there, I had to realize having high hopes leads to high level of disappointment. I'm going to start with these gingerbread hearts, that are traditional in our culture, for every possible occasion and the design changes based on the season.

The decoration on these hears is mostly the same, I mean the same elements can be found on them, but the inscription is adapted to the occasion. Now that Christmas is coming, there were a few Merry Christmas inscriptions in Hungarian and Romanian as well. There were also Christmas trees and bells as well.

Small hearts decorated with snowflakes, tulips (which is a Hungarian folk symbol) and snowflake shaped gingerbread decorated with pine leaves. These are edible and also look good.

Angels and bells, I've never seen these in the market before, but highly appreciate the effort as I know it's not easy. I'm always making gingerbread for Christmas and decorating them is the biggest challenge.

These were also new to me. I suppose these are fro Advent as they have four candles added, one for each Sunday. I was truly amazed how precise the decoration on these were. Look at the one on the left, it's not only the blue tulip pattern, but the white sugarcoat also has a nice pattern. Whoever does these is a true artist in my eyes.

These were also super cute, gingerbread houses and reindeer. I wish I could have bought one of each but that would have meant a lot of money. Then you don't have the heart to eat them.

These were the usual products you see at these craft markets. Cheese of all types. What I like here and am going to buy next time is the cheese bar with sausage in the middle. I have seen that before, Italians are making such cheese, it is called caciocavallo. Not every type is filled with sausage though. It originates from the times when Italians were massively emigrating to the United States and to preserve the meat, they hid it the cheese. This way it survived the long boat travel. What can I say? It's sheer genius!

These products are attracting visitors like honey the flies, till one point. What you see here is honey with all kinds of flavors, like chocolate, fruit and so on. Must be absolutely delicious, but the price ... That is double compared to the normal honey. However, it is still a good thing, especially if you gift them.

Wreaths are not my thing and these are too colorful for my taste. Lavender is also too strong for me, but those decorations in the wooden box are cute. Those are made of dried flowers, which makes them more valuable.

Pickles are the highlight of every market because everyone likes homemade pickles, especially when there's variety.

Look at this crate, full of goodies. Cucumbers, cabbage, peppers, both sweet and hot, green tomatoes and beetroot. Love them all, except for the hot peppers.

Smile 😃, isn't this cure? I love it when someone puts some extra effort in what they do. Pickles are pickles, but a smiley face like this is always more attractive than a plain one.

Yummy! Handmade chocolate with berries, syrups and jams. Love them all! I bought chocolate once and can't even begin to tell you how delicious it was. The big problem is the price as it's not cheap. The solution is to get others to pay for it 😂

Biscuits! Who wants some yummy biscuits? The advantage of these products is that you can gift them without risking to be labeled as cheap or usual. These are special, you can't find them everywhere and I bet the quality is also top level. The one in the boxes are with orange and cinnamon flavor, specially for Christmas.

Handmade jewellery, perfect as a gift. These are usually unique pieces, so you can't go wrong with these.

Last but not least, handmade toys and cushions for kids. I would choose these over the plastic toys any day, but that's just me. Kids may see things differently as they always want what's trendy and what other kids have.

There's a good reason for that, to catch the eye and open the wallet.

Merry Christmas to you too 🎄🎅

I agree with you on that, I could hardly resist. But if you buy it, then you feel sorry and can't eat it :)

I liked the gingerbread reindeers. Very cute! I suppose there is quite some work involved, this makes me curious to try to make them at home by myself.

I think that in these types of market you have a chance to support local businesses. And I do like to pay extra knowing that the money goes to normal people who have a talent and put it to good use.

I'm usually making gingerbread for Christmas and decorating them this nicely is a real art. I suppose they are used to it as this is what they do all day, every day.

Yes, supporting local businesses has been the purpose of this market. Only local artisans are allowed here. I'm always buying something.
